Find the best senior care community in Henderson, where they offer a Vegas-style retirement without the high cost of living. Henderson has options to meet your senior loved one’s needs, whether it’s skilled nursing care, memory support, daily personal assistance, or a combination.
The term nursing home is often how people refer to all types of senior living communities. However, we use the term on this page to mean skilled nursing facilities specifically. Skilled nursing is an advanced type of senior care that provides a high level of constant medical support. Skilled nursing facilities provide 24/7 nursing care and medical oversight with highly trained nurses and doctors.
If you or your loved one doesn’t require this level of daily medical care, an assisted living facility is probably the best fit. Assisted living or general senior care communities support their residents with daily tasks, meals, social opportunities, and a variety of therapies. Memory care communities are a specialized kind of assisted living community that provide specialized support to persons with dementia. The majority of local communities in A Place for Mom’s network also provide on-site skilled nursing services to their current residents, for rehabilitative or post-surgery needs.

However, you can usually expect monthly nursing home costs to include the following services and features:
Not every senior needs intensive 24/7 medical care. If the senior in your life doesn’t require 24/7 skilled nursing care, you should check out our Henderson assisted living and Henderson memory care pages. Assisted living and memory care costs much less than skilled nursing care per month. Such facilities are a better fit overall for seniors who only need assistance with daily tasks and general caregiver supervision.

The starting rent for our partner assisted living communities with memory care was $4,817 per month. These starting rent prices don’t reflect the cost of additional care or any add-on services.[02]

Let’s walk you through payment options that seniors and their families typically use to cover senior care costs. We explore personal payment options first, which are often combined with senior benefits like Social Security income , Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid. This section can help you learn what might apply to your family’s circumstances. Find application resources, local contacts, and benefits that can be combined in a way that works best for your family.
Seniors and their families usually begin by reviewing their personal assets to cover senior care costs. Personal income sources such as savings accounts, investment returns, Social Security benefits, pensions, and the options below are often used to pay for your loved one’s ideal senior care community:
Approximate number of veterans who live in Henderson
Approximately 29% of Henderson veterans are over the age of 75.
Senior veterans and their surviving spouses may be eligible for benefits that can cover their long-term senior care costs. For example, seniors with disabilities from active service and enrolled in VA health care may be eligible for the VA Aid and Attendance benefit. This is typically the most generous veterans benefit. It provides monthly payments on top of a VA Pension to cover the cost of anything that improves quality of life, like a senior care community. However, these benefits can be confusing and difficult to access without proper advice.
Below we provide local resources to help veterans access all their eligible benefits. There are many “presumptive” service-connected disabilities that qualify a veteran or their spouse for disability benefits. Keep in mind that even if a disability is not on the presumptive list, it may still qualify. This is why we recommend meeting with a veterans service officer at a local veterans services organization (VSO) to make sure you or your loved one are not missing out on potential disability income.

Nevada Medicaid provides health care insurance to eligible Henderson seniors of low-income status. It can cover the cost of 24/7 skilled nursing home care in Henderson, Nevada. However, this type of care must be medically necessary due to a diagnosed medical condition in order to be covered.[04,05] Please note that Nevada Medicaid doesn’t cover the cost of rent in private senior care facilities, like assisted living and memory care facilities. But it will cover room and board at a Medicaid-contracted nursing home.
Medicaid doesn’t cover rent at a private assisted living or memory care facility, but some on-site care services may be covered. Through senior-specific waiver programs or Long Term Services and Support waiver programs, seniors can receive Medicaid-covered care services in their current place of residence, as long as it’s a residential or community setting.
One Medicaid waiver for seniors is the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) Assisted Living Waiver. This waiver may cover the costs of daily personal care services, such as assistance with feeding and personal hygiene. The Home and Community Based Services Waiver for the Frail Elderly is another senior-specific Nevada Medicaid waiver. Its purpose is to help seniors remain in their chosen place of residence and avoid a move into a long-term care facility. In order to benefit from this waiver, seniors have to be eligible for Nevada Medicaid.
Nevada also has a Dual Eligible Special Needs Program (or D-SNP) for seniors enrolled in both Nevada Medicaid and Medicare. This program can improve care quality by coordinating care services between Medicaid and Medicare. D-SNP also combines coverage from both programs to help eligible seniors get the most from their benefits. Check out this dual coverage option before applying for other programs, such as Medicaid waivers.

Nursing homes, or skilled nursing facilities, as well as assisted living facilities in Nevada must be licensed by the state’s Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC). Nursing facilities in Nevada must adhere to the following requirements to remain licensed by the state:[08]
Nevada’s Bureau of Health Care Quality performs annual unannounced inspections of skilled nursing facilities to ensure compliance with each of these requirements.[09]
We included this section on Nevada’s assisted living and memory care laws and regulations, in case a skilled nursing facility isn’t right for your loved one. The information below may help you in your search for the right senior care facility. You can also check out our assisted living and memory care pages for Henderson for a complete overview.
Assisted living and memory care facilities in Nevada must be licensed under the category of “Residential Facilities for Groups” by the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC). Inspectors note concerns on staff and safety with the following grades:[10]
In general, all assisted living and memory care facilities in Nevada must adhere to the following requirements to maintain their state licenses:[11,12,13]
Staff and caregivers must comply with the following regulations at licensed assisted living and memory care facilities in Nevada:[12,13]

Henderson has several guidelines in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There are several local pharmacies and vaccination sites where residents are encouraged to stay up-to-date with testing and vaccinations. Review the latest local guidelines by visiting the City of Henderson’s website.
We encourage you to reach out to a prospective community for more information on their specific rules, since each facility may have COVID-19 guidelines and masking protocols of their own. However, Henderson recommends senior care facilities stick to the following guidelines:[14]
Families should visit residents in outdoor settings if possible. Indoors, chairs and tables must be set 6 feet apart, and common or shared rooms need to have proper ventilation.
Residents should quarantine for 14 days if there are suspected flu symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test result.
Caregivers must wear a mask in the facility. An N95 mask and a face shield or goggles must be worn while working with a senior who has COVID-19 symptoms.
Seniors can move into their ideal Henderson senior living community through one of our many in-network partners. Whether seniors need skilled nursing care, assisted living, or memory care, you can find what you and your family needs in A Place for Mom’s Henderson network. You can also find several communities that offer more than one level of care, enabling seniors to age in place should their care needs change over time.
Henderson nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities have highly trained medical caregivers who provide 24/7 supervision and medical care. These doctors and nurses sometimes also coordinate rehabilitation services for seniors in need of recovery after a surgery or an illness. However, seniors who plan to age in place can get the skilled nursing care they need in 86% of A Place for Mom’s partner Henderson assisted living and memory care communities.
In general, seniors need to already establish residency in an assisted living community before they can gain access to the on-site skilled nursing care services. Not many assisted living facilities will initially admit seniors in need of immediate skilled nursing care. If your loved one doesn’t currently require 24/7 skilled medical observation or rehabilitation services, it’s a good idea to establish residency at their ideal assisted living facility now. That way, the senior can remain in their chosen community if their needs ever change.
Henderson assisted living communities offer life-enriching opportunities. Seniors can enjoy the ideal balance of independence and daily assistance in an apartment-style community with multiple on-site care and service options as well as full social calendars. And, 83% of these communities provide more than one type of senior care on the same campus. For example, an assisted living facility might also offer memory care and independent living wings in addition to an abundance of amenities. This can reinforce peer relationships, as seniors with a variety of needs can live on the same campus together.
The other assisted living communities in A Place for Mom’s Henderson network are in residential care homes or stand-alone facilities. Seniors will find smaller numbers of peers and a more intimate setting in a homelike care home or stand-alone assisted living facility. Sometimes, residents in these smaller settings may be able to enjoy a more personalized lifestyle with more tailorable care services. In all cases, seniors in assisted living communities will find a maintenance-free lifestyle full of desirable services, amenities, and activities.
Seniors won’t have to lift a finger after moving into a Henderson assisted living community. Whether seniors need a ride to their next appointment or want to refresh their apartment, these communities have it covered with the following services:
A maintenance-free lifestyle allows seniors to leisurely enjoy every amenity offered. Seniors can enjoy movie nights in spacious theaters, plan a barbeque with friends, and more. Check out some of the amenities you can expect to find at our partner Henderson assisted living communities:

Some families prefer stand-alone memory care facilities due to their more dementia-friendly design. These facilities were built from the ground up to promote a safe, peaceful, and secure lifestyle for individuals experiencing symptoms of dementia.
Seniors in memory care communities or wings have access to similar services and amenities as those at assisted living facilities, as well as additional specialized services, therapies, and staff. Most memory care facilities train their staff and caregivers with extensive memory care training. These facilities also offer advanced security for residents, with enclosed courtyards and a range of wander detection capabilities. Each style of community prides itself on high-quality senior services, resort-style amenities, and enriching activities and therapies.
