Average or sometimes below
There are some very nice people there - both staff and assistants. However, the services we were told would be provided are not always delivered. There have been periods of up to 14 hours that my mother has been left in bed without an opportunity to go to the bathroom. To be unattended that long is never an acceptable or kind way to take care of and maintain the dignity of someone who cannot take care of their own basic needs. We were promised that staff would provide a minimum of 2 hour rounds in the night where they would have eyes on the residents. Often it doesn't happen. I believe the management at The Etta could improve by providing more intense staff training - setting standards and protocols, and and insisting on staff compliance and excellence. There are many issues that could be improved and better goodwill made (hence higher star reviews) by implementing a better customer-centric service approach. The dignity of the residents should come first, and all to often, it is not.

We have been in a few facilities before Aventine at The Etta and I have to say this place is far above our past experiences. The facility is clean and does not "stink". Review for The Etta at Shavano Park
I am completely confident and content that the Etta is taking excellent care of my Mom. The amount of activities available for her to be involved in is Great! Turning 92 in August, she is still able to do a lot of things. I am thrilled she has choices!

Would not recommend Etta at Shavano Park
I would not recommend the Etta to anyone. Honestly, I have nothing good to say about them. Medication (or lack of) and cleanliness was always an issue. Every couple of months they recommended/implemented extra levels of care for additional money each time a concern was raised. Lost clothes and blankets constantly, meds on the floor frequently. Just all around an awful experience and place.

Good care for mom.
The Etta had been very accommodating for mom. They keep her busy with activities and the care is good. The staff had been very helpful to me and keeps me informed. Mom started out in the AL and has moved to the Memory Care because of extra care.

The staff was very friendly and the place appeared very clean. They worked overtime to get mom's place ready on sort of short notice as she changed which room she wanted to stay in. My mom seemed to like her food, but I did notice that they would get a little backed up at meal time. I would recommend this facility. The people are very friendly and helpful.

Small intimate facility that feels like family
They have taken excellent care of my parents in Memory Care. We love how small the Memory Care Unit is. It has a very large family feel to it in Memory Care among the residents and caregivers. I have recommended it to many friends .& family. I am not sure how the price compares to others but we loved how few residents to caregiver ratio it has. My mother passed on [date removed] after a short illness and they were very caring and compassionate through all we r going through. My dad is still living there with dementia and everyone from [name removed] the director over Assisted Living & Memory Care to the newest hired caregiver has given 110% to help him adjust to being without my mom. They were together 79 years

Excellent facility; caring staff
My mom is 102 years old and has been at the ETTA for just over two months now. The staff have been valuable partners in transitioning my mother from her home to memory care. Throughout this difficult transition, the staff have been flexible, compassionate, available and receptive to family involvement, and proactive in identifying needs and offering solutions or helpful resources.

A great place
mom has been at THE ETTA memory care facility for six months now. I have nothing but praise for this place and I’ve seen the caretakers be so kind and sweet with not only my mom, but with all of the residents there. I’ve gotten to know several of the caretakers fairly well over the last six months and I’m in awe of how much they care for the people that they are taking care of. Taking care of somebody who has a memory problem is at best difficult, And they seem to go above and beyond all the time. hopefully, you’ll never be in a position to have to find a facility for memory care for somebody you love, but if you do, I would place it at the top of the list.

You can betta on the Etta
The facilities are clean, safe and well maintained. The staff is warm and very caring. The residents are generally welcoming and moderately active. There are opportunities for arts and crafts, game playing (bingo, Uno, etc.), and group movie watching. Because of the different level of care options, residents are able to receive the assistance they need / want while maintaining their independence. Frankly, the food fell into the category of "needs improvement" for the better part of the past 18 months. That said, there has been a significant, sustained improvement over the past 60 days.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Waterford at Shavano Park 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
