About the facility
Brookdale Round Rock

Located in a residential area — the Brushy Creek neighborhood — Brookdale Round Rock gives residents access to many amenities, specialized care, and fun opportunities. This homelike assisted living and memory care community is close to a variety of shopping areas, restaurants, and local attractions. It’s also just two miles from Round Rock Hospital. Here, residents can receive assistance with care such as bathing before bed, managing medication, eating during meals, and more. Assistance with home maintenance, cleaning, and transportation are also provided. Plus, the staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency, and an emergency alert system is also in use. For those seeking dementia care, Brookdale’s staff uses a signature program called the Clare Bridge, which is based on years of research and provides residents with daily activities to promote wellness, cognitive retention, and social interaction. Some of the program activities include soothing hand massages, participating in pet therapy, or walking with others around the courtyard. In addition to care, if you need to mail a letter or pay a bill, the community offers helpful postal services. The helpful concierge service can also assist with personal requests.

our families experience
In general, her experience was not good. I wish I had done more research before I moved her there. The facility was clean and the staff was mostly friendly and nice. However, it was not the best place for my mother. She was not happy there because she did not receive enough individualized attention even though my mother was in hospice. The value for cost was not good. They have a weird charging structure that pretty much drained her remaining funds with little benefit to her. Overall, I wish I had not moved her there. They charge for everything. In my mom's case, hospice did a lot of things that Brookdale didn't need to do. However, Brookdale was charging her a [fee removed] "reluctance of care" fee because she is very OCD and questioned them about things. That fee was a total surprise to us. It contributed to her depleting her money and having to now apply for Medicaid.

Our Experience
We found the caregiving staff out on the floor to be very good. They took great care of people and seemed to really care. The meals were good, no complaints there. The housekeeping staff was wonderful and always seem to go above and beyond. The facility is clean. There were a lot of great activities. It's a great place for a person who needs assisted-living with minor Care like just medication oversight and a safe place to be. We found the executive staff to be difficult to deal with. They were not good at communication. They kind of kept to themselves and didn't seem to communicate well with the floor staff. I could not recommend the facility based on the executive level staffing.

Financially predatory, in my opinion
CONS: There were many red flags from the start. First, I was listed as guarantor, which I’d told the marketing director ([name removed]) upfront I did not consent to. She tried to convince me to sign by falsely claiming that being a “guarantor” didn’t mean committing my own funds. It was very predatory, in my opinion; I had to be very assertive before they changed it. The executive director ([name removed]) said to me, “Most people don’t read the contract.” That assumption seems to drive their financial strategy, based on my experience. One of the charges on the bill was nearly double what [name removed] quoted (approx. $[name removed]/mo). I was never informed of the increase, contrary to their own policies in the contract. [name removed] wouldn’t even tell me exactly what the extra charges were for other than it was related to “behaviors.” After about 5 weeks and a lot of stressful back-and-forth, I finally got the refund. PROS: My dad received great care from the daytime staff in the memory care unit.

tour review
Our family had an in person tour with Brookdale Round Rock Memory Care First impression is that they were very professional answered all questions before I asked and allowed me time to clarify, met multiple staff, gourmet food sent me home with doggy bag, knowable about specific dementia symptoms and care, ratio of staff 1 to 5. Cost on the high side. They called to check on situation and see if I needed more information after visit.

Homey, but limited care
The property is smaller and more homey than most others, the apartments are nice and roomier than many. The food was good and my loved one put on weight after arriving. My experience with the care is that it is most appropriate for those wanting Assisted Living, but that are in full command of stating their needs or having a hands on advocate. The care was lacking otherwise.

A nice community with friendly and caring staff - would recommend
We were very pleased with Brookdale Round Rock for my dad. They were very caring and supportive. We never had any issues with cleanliness. The staff were great. They genuinely cared and went above and beyond for my dad. He was not very social and they worked hard to help him integrate into the community. We had no issues with the quality of care. They catered to my dad dietary needs and gently insured he didn’t stray when he could no longer balance his diabetes meal needs and help us avoid having to start insulin. Even adding sugar free ice cream to the menu for a wile and helping him with diabetic sage snacks we stocked in his room. [name removed] went out of her way to keep my dad involved in the activities even adding some of the games and activities he was used to from his previous situation and teaching other residents so he would have people to play rummycube with. We found the costs to be fair for the services and care. During Covid when the out side barber and other services were restricted the staff stepped and toke over those services with out additional charge and did a great job.

Brookdale Round Rock seemed like a great place, we thought very seriously about choosing this facility for our loved one. They answered every question that we had and were thorough with detail. They even brought the executive director in and made him available if we needed anything else. They also did a great job following up with us after the tour as well.

Excellent place for parents
I cannot express in mere words the way this team has helped us in providing as positive an experience of life for my parents in their 90’s. And by team, I do not mean just the administrative staff for they are top notch and extremely knowledgeable. I also mean the ENTIRE team. Everyone we have met are happy to help and have great attitudes. This atmosphere isn’t found everywhere.

STAY AWAY.
After being accepted into the community, with an initial payment of over $5000, my mother was moved out in the middle of the night for a non-emergancy concern to a hospital of their choosing, after only 5 days. She spent the next month at this facility as Brookdale would not allow her to return due to a non stageable minor sore on her skin. Brookdale stated that they were not able to maintain her with this concern. She was abused at the hospital they sent her to and after a month we moved her out to another care home as Brookdale would not have her back. During her absence from Brookdale, she was re-evaluated several times(even though she was not present) and charges were added to her standard billing to the tune of $1600+ per month. We refused to pay any cost and Brookdale continued to charge us for services that could not have occured. Billing was sent to collections and we under disbelief, had to pay after threats of legal action. She was at the Brookdale facility for 5 days and we lost a total of approx. $14000. This is an unethical and total criminal enterprise, in my opinion. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST.

Was Nice
This is a larger community that what we wanted for my dad. It was nice and clean the staff answered all of my questions. They just didn't meet my needs. It was a 2 story building with dining room upstairs. We needed a type B facility for my dad's age (99). It was a bit more expensive as well.

Mom feels comfortable here
The staff at this community are very good. They are quick to respond and very attentive. Mom really seems to enjoy living here. They offer a lot of activities and they keep the family informed of what activities are going on each week. The residents are welcoming and the apartments are nice. This is a smaller community and I would recommend it.

It Is A Suitable Community That Needs Some Improvements
I feel the staff could do better with their communication. The admission process, what they share for their service, and following through with their services provided. I have had a long conversation about the benefit she qualifies for from what I was told but the community, now we are being denied and going through an appeal process. They are providing services that is need but they didn't do the paperwork for insurance. The meals are good and the facility is kept clean.

Very disappointed in this place!!
When I had toured this community the building looked beautiful and all of the staff sounded very promising. That was not the case after I had moved my mother in. I am very disappointed with the quality of care she has been receiving and the lack of help that is available to her around the clock. The staff have no check in procedure which baffles me and it took almost three days for me to get an emergency call bracelet that all residents are supposed to have for my mother. They also never have nurses available, they are only there sometimes during the day in the week but never at night and weekends. I am also constantly looking for someone to help her which takes up to over an hour at times. I am looking to remove my mother from this facility as soon as possible.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.
