Brookdale Avondale staff are some of the kindest, most welcoming people I've ever met, especially in the medical field. [name removed], the Sales Rep was so kind and genuine from from the beginning and the same kind person every time I see him. They truly get it! That's not just some elderly person that needs a place to stay...she's my mama! My heart! [name removed], the Health and Wellness Director. From the day she met my mother and me for the evaluation, she was so kind and so gentle. You could tell from the start that her heart is in it and that she truly loves her residents. (I'm not quite sure when she eats or sleeps because she always seems to be there at Brookdale.) I know I must drive her crazy with calls and texts, but she never lets it show and that's comforting. [name removed], Executive Director, she's been so kind and helpful with question and paperwork that mama' long term care insurance requires. I was so confused trying to fill out the forms myself and when I reached out for assistance she didn't hesitate to sit right down and help me. That really means a lot to. And when mama was in the hospital she and [name removed] reached out to check on her. The facility is very nice, but the people that work there make it cozy and welcoming! I haven't met a staff member yet that wasn't kind and caring.

Very comfortable, friendly place. Staff are attentive and work to please. Food could be more catered to residents taste but they have worked hard to provide food he enjoys. A few more activities and off site visits could be provided. A very caring and safe facility.

Brookdale Avondale Review
My mom was there for a 2 week respite stay only. She has since passed away. I would highly recommend Brookdale Avondale to anyone who asks. Everyone was warm and welcoming and mom felt very comfortable there. I had no concerns with how she was treated.

Review for Brookdale Avondale
The community is very welcoming. The regular staff who have been there since mom moved in, know us all by name, so it feels very engaging.
Like everywhere right now, there is increased staff turnover, luckily Mom does not have memory issues, thus she picks up names of new people quite quickly. However, she misses those who have left.
We would definitely recommend Brookdale/Avondale on Merrimac to anyone who asked us.

I would recommend. The staff and leadership of the specific location are overall wonderful and very loving.
Within just three months of moving my grandmother in, in 2022 they raised the initial price of [fee removed] to [fee removed], which I had to rally against with corporate as that felt quite unethical bringing us in and then fine print somewhere I missed allowing such an increase. They have raised the rate each year in a similar way and I've had to push back as she doesn't have any funds to support paying more. Her bill is now at [fee removed].
That is my only complaint- otherwise the leadership of this particular place is kind and the staff overall are very kind to my grandmother, although she complains about a lot of carbs and lack of fresh fruits and veggies in meals.

Very attentive to mom's needs
As the daughter of a resident, I feel this is a good facility for my mother. The director, LPN, and staff are very attentive to Mom's needs. She would enjoy more intellectual activities being offered.

Senior Living Community for a friend or family member
Most of us will have the difficult decision of finding a senior living community for a friend or family member. I visited several in the Jacksonville, FL area. Brookdale Avondale was by far in my opinion, the most attractive for the cost and amenities. The staff is very inviting from the management on down. When you visit a loved one, whether it's two times a week or 50 times, the atmosphere is always cordial. When you ring the bell at the secured front door whoever opens it always has a pleasant disposition.
Location was another positive, the campus is surrounded by oak trees and manicured landscaping. Occasionally you'll get to see ducks and ducklings roaming around from the bedroom window. There's shopping less than 10 minutes from. the campus. with a large grocery store and several restaurants.
I highly recommend Brookdale Avondale. I don't think you'll be disappointed..

Brookdale Avondale tour
I recently had a tour with [name removed] and to say I was impressed is an understatement. In looking for assisted living for my parent, Avondale exceeded my expectations. The rooms, living areas, dining room and courtyard were cozy, clean, well kept and reasonably priced. The residents have plenty of activities and a lovely dining area.

Brookdale Avondale, life’s next adventure
When life took a turn towards less independence for my Aunt, we had to look for the next level of care available for her. Having been single all of her life and no children to assist with this task, we started looking on where she thought she would be happiest. On a recommendation from a resident at Brookdale Avondale, based on this residents services she received, we only had to look at one facility before she had found her place.
No more worries about her getting 3 meals a day, light housekeeping to include personal laundry services, transportation to various locations nearby, helped seal this bid.
There is always an adjustment during the “get to know everyone” process and individual needs for each resident. We feel it had gotten close. She is more at peace snd she always responds “I need to be here and I enjoy it” when asked.
Thanks to the staff at Brookdale Avondale for welcoming her and making this life adventure a much smoother transition.

I nice place with nice people
The people at Brookdale Avondale take very good care of me. I will be 100 years old soon and while I am not sure how much longer I will be around, I know that the people here will take good care of me. I have traveled to many places in my life and seen many things. And I am glad that my children found this place for me. Even though I do not see well anymore, they keep me included in the activities. I get to call bingo and the other residents say that they enjoy it very much.

A Place for Mom where she fits in

They really like me here
Brookdale Avondale has a wonderful atmosphere. The hot water is really good. I've lived in another community and the hot water was often not working. The staff is very friendly and makes me feel at home. When I came here I was not feeling well, but their nurses have helped me recover. The other residents have become close friends as well.
