Great respite care option for our family
Dining was great and the terrace was very spacious and great for outdoor walking. My only negative experience was being able to reach employees by phone. The front desk and medical staff were great in person but hard to reach by phone The other extremely negative experience was that I was not informed that the medication staff does not cut pills w/o a score line. This needs to be very clear to families moving in because I had to have several medications changed last minute which was very stressful to my father and I This needs to he highlighted before move in and did not come up in the in person assessment

Beautiful place
Mom loves the activities - they keep the residents occupied with fun things to do. I thought the transition would be much worse but she settled in very quickly. The facility is clean and well appointed. My mom thinks it's a hotel! Good staffing ratios. Beautiful outdoor areas that are bright and sunny but sheltered from the wind with umbrellas for shade. The weather is always nice and warm so it's a great place for folks who love being outdoors. The memory care

Would not recommend
It was an awful experience. They treat their memory care patients poorly. My grandfather was injured and left unattended. They didn't allow him in his room during the day so he was forced to sleep in an uncomfortable chair during the day. They weren't bathed or cleaned often. The list goes on.

was an easy decision to make
1. Overall experience. (5+) From the start of this very difficult experience, everyone has been so helpful, understanding and informative. Staff answered all of my questions, often before I could even ask the question! Throughout the process of getting my mother moved in, I was completely comfortable with the decision that I made. 2. Cleanliness of the facility (5). This place is amazing. With the size of the facility and number of occupants its appearance both inside and outside was immaculate. The inside air was, for a lack of a better description “Fresh”. No overpowering fragrances, just clean fresh air. Fragrances lead me to question air quality…What unpleasant smells are they trying to mask and cover up. Not here. 3. Friendliness (5). The entire Staff, Caregivers, Medical personnel, Cooks, restaurant workers, Janitors and handymen always have a smile on their face. Upon seeing or passing them in the hallway you’re greeted with a cheerful “Good Morning” or “Good Evening.” My mother has been there since [date removed] and I’m amazed at the number of Staff that know her name and apartment number. 4. Quality of care. (5). I couldn’t be more pleased. Especially with the medical staff. From [date removed] my mother had 3 medical episodes requiring 911 assistance and transportation to a local hospital. Medical staff responded immediately and began attending to mom. While this was going on, Staff members moved furniture and other items knowing the first responders would need room to work. Very impressive!! Considering I was a law enforcement officer for 44 years and had responded to 100’s of medical incidents throughout my career it was clear to me that ALL staff had an assignment, they immediately responded, knew what their task was and handled. 5. Administrative Staff (5). They were extremely helpful from the get go. In addition to knowing my mothers name, they remembered my name as well! They frequently are seen walking through the hallways talking to residents or popping into activities rooms. They also are very available if I’ve had a question. They expertly guided me through the entire process, told me what to expect and how to organize matters for my mom. 6. Food. (5+). I frequently had lunch or dinner with mom at the beginning, honestly, I was checking up on the quality of the food. The Chef and staff prepare delicious, healthy meals. Not only is the food good, it’s “presentation” on the plate ties it all in. I actually call mom to find out what’s on the menu and go to dinner with her. 7. Activities (5). Numerous random activities throughout the month. When mom moved in she was very recluse which Staff had warned me about saying that new residents frequently exhibit that characteristic. But in keeping with what I’ve touched on above, Staff had a plan. They would daily stop by moms apartment to take her down for meals, activities. Staff would place my mom at certain tables with other residents, knowing that they would engage mom on issues and topics. I refer to these residents as “Closers”!! They knew how to “close the deal” with a new resident and make her feel welcome and at Home. That was very comforting to know that they helped mom adjust to her new environment. 8. Value for the money (5++). You definitely get your moneys worth here. Honestly, when I began touring communities, Atria Park was my first stop. I toured other facilities after. With every tour, I couldn’t help comparing them to Atria Park. This one is too dark….Atria had light everywhere. This one is too Quiet…..from the moment you walked in to Atria Park it sounded “Alive”. There was no contest. I knew where I wanted my mother to live. Please pass on my thanks to all that were helpful in this endeavor.

The care givers are excellent! very helpful, caring, and compassionate with the residents and families. The facility looks brand new- bright and cheery - remodeled in 2018 kept in tip top condition. Just a minor problem with misplaced items in laundry only occasionally.

Good facility for my mom
Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. A lot of activities for those who don’t want to stay in their room. Entertainment every week. Several activities every day. Movies in the theater. A lot of choices for meals. Specials daily as well as a set menu. Also a bistro open until 4:00 pm. With snacks and beverages. The facility is clean and well taken care of. Special event for holidays. I’m comfortable with my mother there. She loves it.

Staff that cares
I would suggest that they take a tour and also go to one of their open house activities so they get a better feel for the place. I like the friendly staff that treats my mom like family and appreciate that they give necessary updates when they see fit. Atria Park of Sam Mateo Review
They are accommodating, friendly and welcoming to the residents and the family. There's plenty of activities to keep busy and pleasant places to just sit and relax. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the administrators are very helpful and go above and beyond. There are quite frequently only meat options for lunch and dinner which my mother doesn't eat. There should always be at least one no meat option. Although there are set things she can order if she doesn't like the choices, she gets tired of having to eat the same thing. That said she is a picky eater but according to her there are quite a few residents who complain also. It's hard to please everyone, but there definitely should be daily non meat choices. One more thing about the chef. He does try and call meetings to hear people's issues and I believe he's trying to accommodate everyone. It's not possible to please everyone. It takes a lot of patience

Great place to live
I have been a resident at Atria Park of San Mateo for 2 years. I have moved here from Atria Daly City. This is a wonderful place to live! Many good reasons. Right from when you first walk into the lobby. You are greeted with a smile and welcomed. The staff is very professional, accommodating. The care staff, waitstaff, the housekeeping all friendly and respectful. Many things to do here at Atria. There is an exercise room, a movie theater, a bistro area where you can find many freshly made food items, water, juices, soft drinks and pastries. Terrace is one of the best amenities I enjoyed. Activities such as bingo, gin rummy and craft classes- all handled by [name removed] the Engage Life Director and [name removed], with a smile. Holiday celebrations with great decorations. Thursday happy hour with great music and snacks. Always fun and well attended. The experience has been pleasant. I highly recommend Atria Park of San Mateo! A great place to live in!

Activities are great!
The holiday season 2023 at Atria Park of San Mateo was so memorable! Our Activity Director [name removed] and her assistant [name removed] decorated the entire building. There were huge Christmas trees in the lobby, dining room and living room. Every flat surface had some kind of decorations. There were wreaths on many doors. Angie arranges 3 church choirs to come for Christmas caroling. It was so wonderful it made me cry. [name removed] never does things half way. Every aspect of the holiday season was represented. She tries to make everyday special and she usually succeeds. We built gingerbread houses. Lots of family members and friends was included in this activity making it all the more special. Some people don’t get many, if any, visits from family. Sometimes people get the blues at Christmas time, me included. I lost my only child in 2020. And Christmas had become very difficult for me. But [name removed] made the entire season so beautiful. I felt loved and cared for here at Atria Park of San Mateo.

Rockstars at Atria Park of San Mateo
Because of unforeseen circumstances, we haven't got my father into Atria yet, but they've been absolutely fantastic in terms of their support. I would recommend them highly to others. I give their service in their facility an 11, they've been the only place that actually helped us out and the reason dad couldn't get there is because he has an injury that has been taking a long time to heal so he's been at acute care. However, they've been nothing but wonderful and I highly recommend them and am still hoping that we can get dad in there. We have a reservation. These people are awesome and we may never get there, but I would recommend it.

Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
