Review for The Seneca Rockville
The care staff is excellent, but the food and management changes have been disappointing. Costs have increased, and the new points system feels unfair to existing residents. Hoping to see improvements in dining quality and transparency.

New owners/managers..Kisco
It is under transition from the old owners to Kisco so that has been rough sense it would have been rough regardless for us. Intentions/plans are good and I agree with most of the changes but hiring/training has been slow/confusing. They are very nice people (Kisco) but we are still looking forward to some calm and predictability. Morning and day staff GREAT! Over-night staff iffy, food is sometimes good, sometimes overcooked...they are trying to hire kitchen managers....activities are plentiful and VERY good.

Thank you for your review, we welcome your perspective and take your feedback to heart. We appreciate your patience while our community is undergoing transition with significant operational change. We are working hard to improve consistently professional staffing, the dining experience, and provide the predictable quality of care that Kisco is known for at all our communities. We would like to invite you to Grand Reopening event 9/16 from 4-7pm so you can experience our improvements. We will also have leadership from the home office present and would love to meet the families and friends of residents. We look forward to caring for our residents and growing together.

It was a lovely facility with the nicest staff. We were happy that my mother lived in such a nice place at the end of her life. Even the visiting hospice workers commented on how nice it was and the kindness of the staff. We were with my mom 24/7 for the last few weeks of her life and saw the care and love firsthand. It was not a show they put on for visitors; it was continuous and always visible. We had some issues with the management after she passed away, with some unexpected fees and incorrect billing. That was the only problem. The people who are with the residents every day are absolutely wonderful and attentive; from the front desk to the maintenance staff to the food service workers to the night team and the day team... we loved them all.

Small world, happy place
We are happy with Seneca for our loved one considering her needs at this time. She is not as mobile as we like so the PT, OT, and speech therapy she receives has helped to improve her daily life in the community. The workout room is nice. The staff is very warm and friendly. However, we find the leadership isn't as available and not easily reachable. I find activities are slightly more geared for the woman than men; I get it, more women live longer. Seneca is a diverse community, the residents are wonderful to talk to. This is a smaller size place which is why we choose it. The price is ok; they charge a base rent plus levels of care pricing. The level of care descriptions are vague so it's hard to judge if they are charging appropriately. Our loved one is very happy here. I would recommend Seneca Rockville.

The Seneca is a perfect fit for us!
After visiting several memory care facilities, we chose The Seneca and never doubted our choice! We looked at a small family-run facility, a well-known one within walking distance of our home (which we had thought would be our first choice), a large multi-level care facility and another facility that was dedicated solely to memory care and claims to set the standard in the industry. We chose The Seneca because we loved the all-inclusive pricing plan, the clean and beautiful facilities and the very kind and friendly staff. My mom has daily activities to keep her active, wonderful loving care, and they allowed us to set up her room exactly as she likes it with familiar furniture, paintings, her vast wardrobe and shoe collection and even her beloved xylophone. Every time we visit, she looks content and well-cared for and is much less agitated than she was at our house. We can now spend our time with her sharing loving moments instead of struggling to tend to her needs.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Maryland’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Maryland’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
