I just want to publicly thank [name removed] , the Executive Director, for all the timely updates she shares with residents' family members, both during challenging times (like pending hurricanes!) and in general. My sister and I are so pleased with our decision to trust our mom's care to the staff at St. Augustine Plantation. It takes an entire team to make things go smoothly on "normal" days and, as importantly, to deal with unexpected and unwanted events that occur. We are very appreciative of each department and every individual who work together daily to provide a terrific experience for our mom and for us. We rest easier at night, knowing how well she's cared for. As my mom says to anyone out there who will listen, "You're very good at your job!"

I would highly recommend it based on positive experiences with my Dad. The place is cozy but also has plenty going on to keep residents feeling engaged. Staff is pleasant and attentive, and the food is well planned with varied selections. We couldn't be happier with St Augustine Plantation!

not what was promised, very disappointed
We didn't stay but a couple of months with St Augustine. They turned out to not be a good fit for our mom. It was a beautiful place and had many great qualities but was geared more for those that can somewhat care for themselves. There were a lot of people there that were quite happy. But Mom needed more attention than she was receiving there. Also we had some issues with admin there.
I would tell others looking that If the person is able to mobilize themselves they would do ok. Otherwise they will just spend their days alone in their room. Not much motivation given to keep them active, although that's not what they advertise.

The cost especially sealed the deal. I have already recommended the home to other co-workers, and neighbors going through the same thing I am. Locating a quality loving, caring, attentive, and above all affordable to where mom can live comfortably. It just felt like home warm freindly.staf very attentive on residents an surroundings.

disappointed and do not recommend to others
I have concerns with the lack of communication within Care staff and administrative staff in regards to day to day care. Things went missing and no one there took any of this as important. They did not address the situations properly.
Based off of our experience there, we would not recommend St. Augustine Plantation to others.

Extremely thorough- including follow-up
We picked this community, because t's clean and bright and allows my husband to be in AL. Liked the staff I met. Most everyone is competent and friendly. Activities are often and varied. The food is excellent. I do recommend it to others

My review of St Augustine Plantation
My loved one was a resident here. The staff is good and they work very hard. Administration works with you to get things straightened out. Our loved one's care needs were a little more and due to limited staffing, they weren't always able to provide that here. It was a great place, but we decided to move her as her care needs were increasing.

Not recommended
My husband was in the Memory Care building for 6 years before he died. The first couple of years were okay. Just before Covid the care began to decline. Admin does not communicate well with staff. They have high turnover and the new caregivers are not well trained in working with dementia residents. Workers spend more time on cell phones than interacting with residents. The building itself is well kept and the food is so so. I would not recommend the Memory Care unit to anyone.

Our loved one was there a very short time before she passed. During that time, it looked like it would have been a great place for her. The staff were good about answering any questions. The care was okay, but because she was declining so rapidly, I think she needed more one-on-one attention.

We love the community
Our loved one was their for respite care and we told the staff upfront our loved one was going to be a chore because they had been living on their own for many many years and it was kind of like "my way or the highway." If our loved one was more willing to engage we would of given this community all 5 stars but they just made it difficult. We do not blame them for anything, they really did try their best. All the staff we did deal with were friendly, and cooperative.

St. Augustine Plantation was in our top two. It was a small community, which is what we were looking for. Yet there were plenty of open spaces for the residents to socialize. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If they hadn't been at full occupancy at the time, we would have put our loved one there. I thought they did a great job with their follow-up calls as well.

Warm inviting and very accommodating
We love it there, we needed them for respite/adult day care service and they are very willing to work with us and allow flexibility to pick up our loved one and drop them off. The staff are incredibly friendly, they have great communication and have built up a bond with our loved one. The activities are great, the have exercise classes every morning and cooking shows and cooking activities.

We chose St. Augustine Plantation at the time because of the value for the money. It was also recently renovated so it had a nice appearance. She said yesterday that someone came into her room yesterday and was not wearing gloves but instead had a powder on their hands. They have had multiple outbreaks of covid which leading to more lock downs for the residents.

St. Augustine review
This community is beautiful to look at, all the personnel that were there actually worked, and were actually engaging with the residents. They were certainly friendly as well. The layout is very nice, it's done in a way to look like a large home, there are a lot of gathering rooms to get together in, and the food they serve is very good.
However, after our loved one had been there for awhile we learned the truth, our exceptions were rarely met, the nurses that were there weren't the best nurses, the people who ran the place were mediocre. given this industry, this is probably the best place in the surrounding area.
