Parkwood Village and The Landing experience
Administration staff - is a 3 only because they don't seem to be aware of or able to correct housekeeping issues. I also feel administrative staff should have to eat some of the food we're served. Breakfast is a joke-options posted are not served on a daily basis as advertised. It is nice to have someone to socialize with-cards, table games or visiting. On the other hand there are several tenants here with obvious memory issues or dementia that might do better in assistive or memory care settings.

[name removed], my MIL, did NOT want to leave her home, but after a short adjustment period she really felt loved and cared for there. It felt like extended family. They brought other residents in to meet her when she wouldn't go to the dining hall or activities. The head nurse, [name removed], brought her an unlimited supply of orange sherbet from the independent living facility next door when that was all that [name removed] would willingly eat. The staff there worked hand in hand with Hospice at the end to keep her comfortable and keep us informed. I would highly recommend Parkwood to anyone. [name removed] didn't participate in the activities but they had lots of them and they always looked fun for the residents. Our only wish is that [name removed] had gone there earlier when she could have been a more active resident

Don't put your loved one at parkwood village & the landing
My wife assisted brushing her teeth twice in 2 yrs. didn't give her medication for 6 months,& was paid for it. Raised care of living and medication in one month without notifying me in writing. When she coundn't walk or get out of bed, they leave it on the cart.On our 61 anniversary, gave us 30 days to find another place. I appealed it, and they withdrew it after 30 days. The directer hold her employees accountable. They placed blame on each shift. Loose medication after signed in. They allowed my wife a horrible death. Don't expect ombudsman to help you, because they cover each others back, and also DSS. They all are there for a pay check. Trust me, I complained from the time she was admitted. and I was paying out of pocket.

Home away from home
From the initial visit to move in, everyone has been genuinely nice and friendly. Everyone is and was very welcoming. The landing is a great place to live. The location is a plus. The only downside in my opinion is that every year the rent goes up, which i don’t like because most people who live there are on fixed income. Other than that my mom loves it.

Mama has been very happy here
My mother is currently a resident at Parkwood Village and overall the experience has been great so far. The staff is great, the housekeeping is good, clothes seem to be shared, communication with the family has been good. The move in process was easy, we had to tell them twice what diet mama needed but they seem to have gotten it now. I would definitely recommend this facility to family and friends.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know North Carolina’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about North Carolina’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Parkwood Village and The Landing 7.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
