I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE to ANYONE.
Overall, my father in law (who recently passed) was at Harbor House for about a week. All communication for the intake was very informal, with text messages with the manager. (That should have been the first red flag). We were told that the manager would go and do a complete evaluation and speak with the rehab staff about my father in law. We asked for a specific date and time and she could not give us this. She said she was "out of town" and was short with us. The behaviors that he was displaying at the rehab were the exact behaviors he was displaying at Harbor House. Had they actually done a full eval they would have known and hopefully been prepared OR say they did not have the resources to give him the type of care he needs. He was admitted to Harbor House BEFORE the evaluation (I don't know if that was by request of my mother in law or not, but the steps to intake a patient were too informal and not professional.) When moved in, his room had just been clean and the staff was friendly. Then my mother in law began receiving text messages that he was unsafe and very irritable. Within a week he was being taken to the emergency room for his irritable behavior without consulting my mother in law. He was not a danger to others. He was moving furniture, but when fed snacks he calmed down. He ended up having a UTI (which at the Harbor House Tour, they said they could "smell that a mile away" and it could be taken care of... they did not!). From that time on, 3 weeks later, he passed away in the hospital. In those three weeks, very little communication was had or checked in. When told my father in law would be on hospice using the hospitals' suggestion, the manager replied that "She does not like those people and that she has her own people". This was the last straw. We decided to find another placement and moved him out. However, it was too late and he ended up passing away.

Response from Harbor House Memory Care
October 31, 2025
Dear Family Member. The Harbor House team prides itself on going above and beyond for all our families and residents. Urgent-Last minute Admissions can be challenging when there are untreated or undocumented medical conditions that manifiest over a number of days. The foundation of our program begins with the understanding of the challenges that occur in end stage dementia. We regret that your expericence was unpleasant and that you interpreted the messages negatively. We are committed to quality care and stellar customer service, and wish you would have brought these issues to us right away, instead of waiting so many months to post it in a review. Perhaps we could have course corrected. Very sorry for your loss. ~ HARBOR HOUSE TEAM

a caring community
The staff is caring and gentle and create a feeling of family. Yes, I would recommend this community to others. If like me they prioritize people above the artificialities of housecleaning and décor- but then I have a very messy child's play kitchen in my cluttered living room, unlike the many people who want the fancy hotel lobby idea of perfection for themselves and their loved ones which I don't begrudge ( we all have our ego fulfillment needs), so Harbor House is not for everyone but it is fine by me - a kind, easy, accepting family atmosphere.

Would recommend this facility with friendly staff and personalized care.
The staff and nurses are very caring and friendly. They have activities daily. They try to engage the residents in conversation or movement to music. The aides help get them moving so they aren't sitting or sleeping all day.

Just what we wanted for our dad
My dad is currently residing at Harbor House. He has been in several different facilities over the past 2 years and this facility is by far the best. Staff and Administration ([name removed]) are friendly and caring and the facility is clean and homey. It is not at all an institutional looking environment. The resident and staff ratio is MUCH better than most facilities and the size of the facility is smaller than most, which I believe allows for better care for your loved one. We are very happy and relieved my dad is in this facility.

run away!
The food there is terrible and there are zero activities. The staff is decent enough but they are overworked & underpaid. In the short time I resided there they went through four directors, 4 or 5 activity directors, 3 maintenance men, and lots of caregivers. The administration is behind it and I want to make it perfectly clear that it's not the staff. The staff do what they can with limited resources, and yet they're not appreciated for all they do. They claim to have nursing care 24/7 but there is NO NURSE between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The nurse is only "on call" then. There is also only one CNA on staff between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and too many times they fall asleep & do not answer their call light. You can go weeks asking to see a doctor or a psychiatrist before you finally see one. Run, do not walk away, from this facility. Don't believe the administration. They lie to cover up another lie. The residents who can voice their concerns have all left.

Good care and options
I was happy with this tour. We like the staff who were friendly and able to answer the questions we had on the care that is offered. The community is clean and the menu was appealing of healthy meals that are offered. they would have been a good place for care for a loved one. Families should tour this nice community for their loved one and know that cost of care.

Harbor House provides best care
Harbor House is a wonderful home for those loved ones needing more care than can be provided by family. Our mother was at Harbor House for 16 months. She became a part of the family and received the most compassionate care. The staff is dedicated, thoughtful and loving. We feel very fortunate to have found Harbor House. It was a very good choice for us and our mother.

Harbor House review for memory care
Dad has been a member of the Harbor House family for a little over three months. In that period of time, all of the staff from Administration , physicians, health professionals, and care takers have been amazingly supportive and communicative. Every one I have encountered over the months has demonstrated professionalism and a sense of caring my family has not encountered in other assisted care situations. They work hard to foster as much independence as possible with a tremendous amount of respect and dignity. The staff's ability to effectively deal with the behavioral issues that commonly present with memory loss is unparalleled in my family's experience. They are a role model for the community in this regard. Knowing that Dad is receiving great care, and it is of great solace for me and my family. We feel blessed we have found this home for Dad!

A caring community for your loved one
My mom has been a resident of Harbor House for 8 years. I have found the staff at Harbor House to be very approachable. The daily caregivers take good care of Mom and are very kind and loving. The nurses and directors are conscientious and also very caring- they have let me know of any changes in my mom's health or all being. It is reassuring knowing Mom receives such good care.

A God Send!
My mom was in a big, fancy, expensive nursing home where she was neglected, fell down in the bathroom with no one helping her, and had half of her stuff taken by either the residents or the staff - we still aren't sure. Caring.com put Harbor House in touch with me and from the moment I spoke with Savannah, the executive director, I knew this place was special. Savannah actually did the assessment at the big, fancy, expensive nursing home. She confirmed what I already suspected about my mother's care at that place. I decided to move her out of there and over to Harbor House. Savannah actually drove out there with me and helped move her stuff and my mom (I was visiting mom out of town). Over the next few days, I got a very up-close look at Harbor House and how the staff interacts with their residents. I popped in at unexpected times and walked through the adjacent buildings. I never saw a deviation from the excellence of care I saw the first time - not even once. I never saw residents mistreated or spoken to condescendingly, like I did at the other place. The caregivers are amazing women. I wish I could remember all their names because each one of them deserves a shout out. The nurses are really hands on. Sam spent tons of time with me, discussing my mother's medications. The doctors call you and I spoke with her for an hour! I couldn't even get the doctor at the big, fancy place to return my call! The place is small and it's warm and cozy - like a previous commenter said, it's not like an institution at all. It's like a home. My mom has an adorable sunny, private room with her own bathroom. She's always got someone there to help her. All I can say about this place except is that it's exceptional. I have learned that big, fancy nursing homes are usually understaffed and can't manage the needs of their patients. This place CARES for their patients. I don't need crystal chandeliers and big lobbies. I need individualized care with people who treat the elderly like the human beings they are. Harbor House does this. The owner of this facility needs to be very proud of his staff and his philosophies. I hope they never change. Amazing place.

Great Place
My husband has either Alzheimer's or Lewy Bodies with Dementia and we have been through several facilities since March of 2014. They have been the high end to not so nice but because of behavior issues most places will not take that patient. Harbor House has been wonderful. At the time they took [Removed] in all he wanted to do was be able to walk around. Harbor House was designed to let him wander around the building and if the weather was good he could also walk outside. The staff is very caring.
