A learning experience
I do not recommend them and actively tell people not to seek care for their loved ones there. Very displeased with their communication (lack of) and overstatement of their abilities to care for dementia patients.

Best Decision
Making the decision to move dad into a memory care unit was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. The staff made this move easier by "holding my hand" and guiding me on what to do. While I knew it was the best decision, it was still difficult. Since the move, he seems happier than he was at home. He is socializing and enjoying the company of other residents. The staff are so kind and informative. This ended up being the best decision I made.

Top Notch!
We have been with Cardinal for over a year and have loved every moment of it. Between the beautiful community, the staff and the care that is received - there is nothing not to love. Making the move to assisted living is a hard decision but they made it so much easier. They really are the best.

Beautiful Community
The community is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The residents seem to be happy and every time I visit, they are engaged with an activity of some sort. I prefer Cardinal because of the location - it's off the main road and in a cozy neighborhood.

Overall I'd recommend. Favorable for sure glad I chose Cardinal
Helpful friendly good value for cost vs other places I looked at. Fair amount of confusion on my part how to get my mom's long term health care plan going. Guess I didn't ask enough questions.

Amazing memory care community!
They do a good job with keeping the facility clean and always appears presentable. I love that they are so attentive to my father's needs and great about keeping me informed on any changes that may be needed for his medications and or his care. Also, I love that hey are patient with him and have a good rapport with him and very knowledgeable about his needs without having to look it up. They just love what they do genuinely and it reflects in the care he receives.

The worst facility
My father was there for only two weeks. He ended up with a black eye and bruises. This place does not clean them, feed them or perform any duties they said they would. The facility was dirty and the workers were always on their phones. Do not put your loved ones in this place.

Terrible
This senior memory place was not a great experience for any love one. I walked in and the previous reviews I saw online did not do any justice. Staff was on their phones not paying attention to the patients. Patients were able to roam all over facility without supervision. My suggestion is to put cameras all over facility so staff can focus on patient care. I just would not feel comfortable sending my love one to this facility.

Nothing like home
Ate lunch there and I’m 83 and had a hard time eating it. Watched other patients having the same problem, if they didn’t eat when time was up dishes were removed. Felt bad for them. If I could handle him at home , for the price I’m paying for there, I would bring him home but saw how they handle the patients is ignore until they have time. At home I would answer immediately and meds would be given on time and wake him up when there due.

I didn’t like anything. Bad communication regarding medicine and health issues, staff was inattentive (sat and talked on phones), didn’t help with feeding (when they said they would), showed zero empathy for our concerns. Lacking in cleanliness. Did not offer enough beverages.

Bright Leaf Review
The staff at Bright Leaf is extremely friendly and willing to listen to our needs and concerns. Sometimes we have to follow up with them to make sure things have been done, but they are always polite. The price was the main thing that made Bright Leaf stick out initially over other places we were looking at.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Virginia’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Virginia’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
