My direct experience with Brookdale as a family member and responsible party
I really liked the Director but unfortunately, he just left to go to another Brookdale facility closer to his home so I can't blame him there. I don't know how it will be when they get his replacement in. I'm hoping the same. He worked really hard to help me to get my mom on Medicaid after

Learning experience
Brookdale pulled out of their acceptance of [name removed] days before he moved in. It was pretty traumatic for me and my kids. We of course didn't move in so i can't speak on some but I thought for size of room, care ratio, etc was good. But since this happened I have heard similar stories about Brookdale a friend's father in law was moved into one of their facilities and they said no after a few months. They were changing management too and didn't tell me when we were touring and they knew. So some red flags I didn't see but the experience helped me when looking for a new facility.

Disappointed
My loved one was supposed to move into Brookdale Burlington Memory care, but did not end up doing so. After accepting him and me paying, they declined him three days before move in because corporate decided that he was a risk in the future as his dementia may make him aggressive. After that everything was handled very poorly and even until recently. I had a hard time getting my refund. Then they overpaid me and charged me a $[removed] late fee on monies that they sent to me by mistake. Communication was poor at best, I was so disappointed. However, we found another Memory Care facility that worked out for the two months before my loved one passed away unexpectedly. I honestly think that one of the big problems was that they rushed it all. Maybe because it was the end of the month and if I signed everything by 'x' date then I got a better price. So they did the home evaluation before they had me sign the paperwork to release my loved one's medical records and they accepted him and my payment before corporate reviewed.

My direct experience with Brookdale as a family member and responsible party
I really liked the Director but unfortunately, he just left to go to another Brookdale facility closer to his home so I can't blame him there. I don't know how it will be when they get his replacement in. I'm hoping the same. He worked really hard to help me to get my mom on Medicaid after a year of her being there. The business office has been good to deal with. The overall care has been pretty good. My sister has had to take my mom and give her a bath because she hasn't been getting one as much there because I think she refuses sometimes. The communication could be a little bit better concerning her care, but it has gotten better as time has passed. I will say that. They have done some great family events to try to bring the residents and families together some more and those have been really nice. I wish they would do a few more out of the facility activities and I think they're going to do more of that, but that has been lacking although they have done activities inside the facility for them.

Amazing Staff
The staff - I'm including everyone in this, from management to housekeeping - made an extremely difficult decision comfortable and easy for our family. And they have not changed that at all. From the first day they have treated us with great respect. They are very good with keeping us informed. Very open and friendly with all family members every time we visit. Just really very comfortable and happy!

Our experience at Brookdale
I would encourage people to come visit. I looked at a lot of other places and chose Brookdale. We've had a positive experience overall. They've been good to my loved one, and I'm happy with the treatment she's getting. I haven't heard of any places that are better, but I've heard of others that are worse. I feel like they have enough activities overall, but maybe not for her more advanced class of dementia. I feel like they're definitely making an effort with her, and the activities that she does participate in, they help her out and encourage her. I think smaller, more social groups of 2-3 people could be beneficial, but I understand that involves more employees and more cost. But she has a smile on her face most of the time. That's all I can expect, that she's happy. I feel they're in the ballpark and comparable to the cost of other communities.

Brookdale Burlington Memory Care
The community is usually very clean. On the whole, the staff is pretty friendly. Out of all of the staff that have worked with my husband, all but one have been very nice. I do wish they would be more communicative with me about his care more and occasionally, things do go missing from his room. The food is not very good and it seems that most of the time the residents don't eat the food all that much. Because of the food, they have struggled with maintaining my husbands dietary needs. On the whole they are good, but on some occasions, it seems like they don't have enough training to deal with certain situations. It does also seem like they should provide some more supplies than they do. The room he is in is very nice and it does have a nice bathroom attached to it. They used to have someone come and sing every weekend to the residents. I don't completely think we get our money's worth from the community.

Great Respite stay
My mom enjoyed her respite stay here, the staff was great they made sure she took part in the activities and she enjoyed going to the dining room with the other residents. The director here was also great in helping me with a billing issue. This is a very nice community and I would definitely recommend them

A smaller community but nice
We had a nice tour by the staff, they were knowledgeable and answered all our questions. This community was somewhat smaller and mom didn't feel that there not as many activities or amenities as some of the other communities we saw. Mom said that lunch was okay. We didn't think this was the fit for mom.

Excellent care!!
My brother is doing very well and has adjusted well since his move. We are very satisfied. The only thing we have had a concern with is for one, the halls sometimes really smelled like urine. They did explain that a lot of the male residents don't know understand and have accidents, but they do clean it up right away. Also, my brother was not changing clothes as often as he should so we brought that up as a concern. As far as the care, they are super excellent! Everyone there is very friendly and open to the residents and their needs. We will just have to work on a solution on his cleanliness, but it is a good place.
