Easy for mom to get around, exercise program, friendly staff. They need more help in diner, too short staffed and not really balanced meals.

Tour for care

We toured this beautiful community. The staff was nice and caring. We did like that they had a lot of different type of care. We liked what was offered with the menu and the activities. We think that this would have been a good community for us to move into. They did not have the type of care needed. Families might want to tour this community for the care of a loved one.

Daughter or a resident

Mom is now a resident at Madrona Park. She is meeting new people and becoming settled. The facility is cleaning, the staff is friendly and helpful, and we are happy with the care services and daily activities. My brother is handling the financial piece, so I'm unqualified to address that question.

Top choice!

I really like this place when I toured. I almost moved in but the location was not very convenient for me. I have to go to Seattle with the VA ad that would have been too much of a struggle with having to go through traffic and busses. Other than that, I really did like everything about this community.

Nice place, hidden prices

If you're going into the facility for assisted-living be very careful because the sliding stale for just an assisted living can and will very easily double the cost of what you're expecting. I signed my grandmother up at a rent of [price removed] per monthly charge is over [price removed] and that is why I answered with the money at such a low level.

A friendly, comfortable place to live

The residents are super-friendly on the whole. It is impossible to have a ride in the elevator without a welcoming greeting from someone. The facility/staff are mostly accessible and responsive. It varies with the individuals. The person ([name removed]) who talks to possible new residents is excellent. Above and beyond. Same with the general manager ([name removed]?). The desk staffers vary depending on their personalities, from great to adequate. The Assisted Living director is A+, but overworked and not always immediately available. The dietitian never responded to my note--but did she get it? This all sounds just like real life, right? On the whole, Landmark was a good recommendation on your part and a good decision on our part. Overall, we feel like we made the right decision.

Decent facility overall

Seems like there's been some front desk turn-over, not sure why. The food is ok, but on my tour it was described as "farm-to-table" and it is more like almost average diner food. The hallways, particulary stairwells recently are looking unvacuumed and kind of shabby. It's still a relief to know that help is a button push away, and that she gets clean sheets and housekeeping every week. She also filled.out an extensive questionnaire about her interests, but that info was never used to connect her to others in the community who might share similar interests. Her new friends circle is pretty small (part of that is on her, she knows, but also she feels the community could do better with a newsletter, or a bulletin board...some way for those who maybe eat on different schedules to find each other (if they don't participate in the other scheduled activities).

Learning to navigate your family member in memory care.

It is a learning curve putting your parent into memory care and one that my siblings and I did not look forward to but it became 247 care. We felt Gencare was a great match for Mom, nice directors with a smile when we visited and lovely garden area, that in spring Mom will enjoying. Mom has had some medical issues that has been a little bit of a challenge, to get her signed on to the Home Doc and evaluated and obtain prescriptions. There are some issues with communication and follow up, this is all new to us and Mom adaptated to her new eenvironment had not been easy for us or staff, part of the learning curve. I was hoping there was some type of documentation that could be accessed for family members so we can check on daily/weekly updates without calling staff and taking up their time. That being said, Gencare Corp.has reached out to me to discuss further about our concerns. My siblings visit at all different times of the day during the week so we probably have more concerns.

Overall decent facility.

Lovely walking path around the building. Well-kept grounds. Nice windows/views from dining room. Seems like quite a lot of staff turnover in kitchen since Feb, including with serving staff. Food has been really variable. Was touted as farm-to-table, but there is a lack of farm-fresh that I've seen. Very bland, commercial type cafeteria food. Salad bar is half canned things. Also, dinner service ends really early...6pm. That's tough for some folks (including my mom, who's had dinner at 7 or so her entire adult life).

We've had some issues with services, but my dad has declined rapidly. Can't say for sure why, but I'm guessing he doesn't want to be there. But he wouldn't want to be in any memory care unit anywhere. I would recommend to others.

A great place to have your loved one - and a fun place to live!

The staff was very loving towards my mother, which was great. They tried to get her to be a participant even if she couldn't participate she would be there to watch. The front desk was great. Everyone was nice sometimes communication was a little bit off, but that's hard they have a lot of residents so they're pretty busy. It's a wonderful place they have so many activities. It's unbelievable you cannot get bored there as a 40+-year-old woman I wouldn't mind living there there's so many fun things to do so if somebody's very active still or even semi-active, it's a wonderful place to be. Overall, the experience was pretty good. They were very friendly very nice. Staff was wonderful. Especially the nurses. The activities Director is wonderful. Also very thoughtful, very kind. Everybody seems to be in a pretty good mood which is hard to find that some of these facilities.. I wish mom could've stayed there longer but she needed more needs

The move in process was good. The food is good. Staff is very friendly. They clean the residents' rooms weekly. Communication with the family is great. I gave a low score on cleanliness because the hallway carpet smells like dog feces and urine. Overall, I would recommend this facility to anybody.

Our Experience

My loved one's were previously residents at Gencare Lifestyle Tacoma at Point Ruston and overall their experience at this facility was good. The cleanliness and friendliness were good. The care services, meals, activities and value for cost were all very good. However, there were significant issues with staff turnover at this facility. The staff turnover was particularly noticeable in the nursing care office and in food service.

Living at the Ballard Landmark

I have been living here for a few years now and I really enjoy it. They have lots of activities you can attend if you want to every day. They also have many fitness classes each day, I try and attend as many as possible. I also really enjoy walking around the ballard neighborhood with the escorted walking group or by myself.

Our families experience

The Lodge has plenty of different activities going on for the residents, but when it comes to the meals and dining service, that is terrible. It needs major improvement - there needs to be more options to pick from. The meal items are often served cold and sometimes what they have on the menu they are out of. The servers don't really following direction either.
