Hidden Unexpected Charges
I never saw the property. Don't know much about the place except for the website and the video tour. Wasn't too pleased at them not telling me I was being charged an additional month rent because a closet full of my aunts stuff was there after her passing and I couldn't get [name removed] maintenance person to dispose of it.

The food is horrible. They are understaffed. Room size is good. My dad only went to one activity. He couldn't participate because you had to sign up a month in advance - so they wouldn't let him sing a song.

There wasn't too much I like about the community except the residents and kitchen staff. They can improve in a lot of areas but what should drive the community is the safety, care and well being of the residents.

needs improvement.
The common areas of the facility are really nice. They keep them up clean. They need to work on their food. It's disgusting especially up in Memory Care where by the time the residents get fed, the food is cold and sometimes you can't even really tell what it is and Memory Care they do have some stuff that are great, but most of them are lazy and when you request a welfare check in my experience, it was left and addressed.

a nice community.
if we're talking about overall cost (memory care is coat prohibitive for seniors- I fins it ridiculous that corporations are making big bucks on aging adults) 4 if compared to other facilities I live outside of the area & my dad is in memory care so I can't depend on his statements for judging care/food/etc.

Nice Community
First off my case manager [name removed] was absolutely fabulous! She helped me every step of the way. I would use A Place for Mom again with no question. The facility was clean the room she had was fabulous with a little patio outside she loved it. What food she ate was very good, she had a different sleeping times so it was hard for her to get to breakfast because she wasn't awake yet. She had been a nurse for almost 50 years doing the night shift so it was hard for her too try and change her sleeping habits. So it would have been nice had she been able to pick up some extra things in the kitchen at off times. Everyone was very pleasant she enjoyed the extracurricular activities.

There's been a lot of turnover and it seems they have a handle on things. There was a time where a lot of administrative items were falling through the cracks. There's a new GM and she seems to be dialing up the level of service in all areas.

Poor food, residents left waiting for meals for over an hour
Food is a big part of a resident's life at an Assisted Living Facility. The food at the Village at Rancho Solano is consistently poor, late or unavailable. Meal times at the Village are supposed to be 7-9 am, 11:30 - 1:30 pm and 4-6 pm. However, in addition to being poor quality and bad tasting most of the time, the residents are often kept waiting for over an hour for their food. Complaints to the State, to the Ombudsman, to the Executive Director, to the Corporate office of Pegasus are made time and time again to no avail. The Executive Director always has some kind of an excuse as to why the food is not served in a timely manner or certain food that was promised such as dinner rolls are not available. In Memory Care, where the residents don't have a voice, the food served is often cold and late and when residents want more, they are told there isn't any more available. With many residents paying over $[removed] per month for room/board and care, this is uncceptable.

Fantabulous!
I toured (6) facilities/homes to become my mom’s new home. The Village at Rancho Solano was my first choice. My sisters all agreed. We moved my mom in and we have not been disappointed at all. The place is beautiful. [name removed] the Executive Director has a personality plus!!! She is so warm, loving and welcoming. Super impressed with her. The rest of the staff is absolutely amazing. You can tell they all love what they are doing. They are so wonderful with my mom and everyone else I see them intermix with. The staff is Friendly - Kind - Caring - Attentive and so much more. Best choice we could have made.

Understaffed facility
My mom was in the memory care facility less than a month before she suffered a big fall that lead to her death. I found that they had a lot of good intentions and the program in general was structured well. Unfortunately, they were chronically understaffed and most of the time would not follow along with their schedule of activities for their program. I would be very cautious about putting a loved one here who is higher need and a fall risk. They just don’t staff adequately and can’t handle higher need residents. I feel overall mislead that they could handle my mom’s needs and that they planned to deliver the programming and care as promised.

Recommended for Assisted Living
My dad was assigned to Memory Care originally, in error, so he was there for the first four months before we could get doctor approval to move him to Assisted Living. We had a lot of complaints about his level of care in the Memory Unit, things like showers, laundry, linen changes and housekeeping were not being done consistently or in a timely manner. His care has been much improved and we have been mostly happy with Assisted Living. The main problem currently is lack of staff in the dining room and an uncoordinated approach to serving; sometimes they won't get their soup or drinks, sometimes dessert is delivered with the dinner, and other mishaps. In general, I would recommend The Village at Rancho Solano for Assisted Living, but not for Memory Care.

Thank you for sharing your candid feedback. We're disappointed to hear about the initial challenges your dad faced during his time in memory care at The Village at Rancho Solano, but it's encouraging to know that his care has improved since transitioning to assisted living. We take your concerns regarding the number of team members and dining service coordination seriously. At your earliest convenience, please email Brittney Andrews, Area Director, at bandrews@pegasusseniorliving.com with your full name, contact information, and details about your father's experiences at both levels of care. Thanks in advance for your continued feedback; it is invaluable to us.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know California’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Village at Rancho Solano 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
