Very happy to be at the Palms of Mount Pleasant

Mother lives it; the activities are wonderful. Therapist do a fantastic job. Some kinks in getting meds timely but staff working on issues ( weekends with Agency staffing). Would recommend! Great activities; nice community! I was worried how my 98 year-old mother who has very low vision would adjust to a new environment. She loves it participates in the activities and wins bingo several times a week!

Overall pleased

Room size are different they're not all the same. You got two bedroom apartments one single bedroom apartments then on my big concern they have things break down and takes months before they are fixed. Then they put handicapped people on the third floor they got two blind people up there on the third floor when there's room downstairs on the first floor. The food it is very tasteful but sometimes it's undercooked and sometimes it's overcooked I think they got one of the best soup makers around town.

Room for improvement

Maintenance issues are generally slow to be addressed. Air conditioning issues throughout buildings since first week of June. (Some repairs but mostly temporary units/duct work for now. ) Main elevator is finally working again but has been down majority of the year. Renovations promised spring of 2025 have yet to happen. Needs new carpet, paint and deep cleaning overall. Realize there is new management but have seen very little movement on those items.

The Palms of Mt. Pleasant

My experience here has caused many emotions and questions. Staff is strongly helpful and the dinning room excellent. It's an old building and requires lots of ongoing repair... which has not been done in a timely manner. The people are wonderful here and we all look out for each other. The executive director has been most honorable to attempting to make the Palms a number one site. She cares about all things happening. Here and wants a number 1 place. She is to be admired. Everyone here loves each other. I feel safe here and I am not afraid which is a tremendous gift

Love the size of the villa. Had a difference of opinion about "Deep Clean". Food is good, most staff is extremely friendly, haven't tried any activities yet.

The person I met with,[Name Removed], was wonderful. You can tell she really cares about people in her community. She gave me a good description of all that the facility offers. We even came in contact with some of the residents, and they seemed to be wonderful. The only issue, is that the building is being renovated. I don’t know what the building will look like once it is renovated. What I saw were dark hallways, used drinking glasses out in the bar area from the night before, trash filled to the top of the can from the day before, chairs, and disarray and a lot of the rooms. [Name Removed] told me this normally does not happen. But of course, I wonder if it does. The air was stuffy, and it smelled a little. It’s hard for me to imagine what the place will look like once renovated, and what the price will be once renovated. also, all elevators, but one were down. Makes me wonder if this happens a lot. And public bathrooms were out of order.

Review for The Palms of Mt. Pleasant

I must say upfront that this is my first experience with any kind of retirement community so I don't know what to expect or not to expect.... but overall, I would say the experience at the palms has been pretty good.... I have a few grievances but they are minor..... I'm an old retired guy. Nothing much bothers me anymore.....

Review for The Palms of Mt. Pleasant

The food is fairly good. The building is not in very good shape. There is a lack of communication with the staff about issues with the apartment. There was no hot water in his apartment for the first week. The HVAC in his apartment didn't work for the first week and barely works now. The icemaker has never worked and there is a bulge in the vinyl floor that still hasn’t been fixed. I'm over all ok with the facility but if my father would need assisted living I doubt I would be ok with the facility. They also made two very large withdrawals from his account over 3 days that resulted in an overdraft of his account. That was very surprising.

Responsive staff

I would rate everything at 4. Some maintenance issues, slow response time to billing questions but overall a good fit for my mom. Facility still needs a lot of renovations. New management. Lots of activities! Responsive to requests in general. Great location and mom has enjoyed the food so that's a plus. I recently referred my cousin to A Place for Mom in DC/MD/VA area and your company was very helpful to her too.

I was afforded a digital tour of the facility. It appears to be well maintained and pleasant. Staff provided photos of their facilities, arranged to do an assessment and contacted me about their findings.

Review for The Palms of Mt. Pleasant

My uncle was there for a year- he passed away there. He was in the memory care building so I can only speak for that building. Almost all patients were more advanced dementia. They take only 12 residents. It was perfect for him. He received a lot of attention, the caregivers were exceptional, it was more like a home environment. He had been in 2 other facilities and this was without a doubt the best. But it is definitely more suited for advanced dementia or those that do better in a quiet environment. Because it was so small, all the residents got a lot of attention, and the staff seemed to really feel called to work with dementia residents- they joked a lot and had great attitudes

Everything sounded perfect for my mother to reside at The Palms except that the main hallways, walls, carpets and trim work were so in need of updating, repair and renovations that it would be a deal breaker for Mom. Beyond that, the staff was personable, helpful and informed and the services sounded like a great match, Indepedent with services. If a close date for that work to be done is available, please let me know. I will still bring my mother in soon to see and tour.

Review for The Palms of Mt. Pleasant

Her medical care was basically zero. She was taken off all of her medications for days for no apparent reason. When I asked what had happened, I was told that the person responsible was out of town and it was miscommunication. She was moved to a different room and when I went to visit, 10 days later, she had no clothes. No walker. No cane. Which she had used prior. I asked to go back in old room to see if her things were in there, they were, including a box of medications. No toilet paper or rod to hang shower curtain in bathroom. There are more complaints but these are the main ones.
