Very expensive, mediocre care, poorly managed facility
Disorganized and rude administration. Care Center is not a true skilled nursing facility, not governed by medicare rules. Witnessed senior admin staff intimidate skilled nursing residents and families who complained about lack of care and services. Even though they claim "person centered care," they offer no dementia care or family support. Staff openly discriminate against residents in skilled nursing, restricting their activities to the care center floor or in their rooms. Poor housekeeping throughout. Lacks a quality core nursing staff. Only positive comment is that the food is good. However if your elderly relative requires assistance to read a menu and write down their choice, or assistance with eating, the staff won't help them. My relative was treated very poorly. Very, very expensive and not worth any penny!

Lots of Financial Questions
First of all, of course, they're quite expensive. My aunt didn't like the fact that hey had to ask about her financial situation. When we asked why they were asking these kinds of questions they said they wanted to make sure that they're not hurting her financially. I just thought, even with ordinary people, if you can't pay your rent you're out so why does it matter to them how much money she has in the bank? Her money will outlive her but to her it's like I don't have to tell anybody how much I have. Everybody is nice and it's a beautiful place with ample parking and everything. The view is nice but my aunt didn't like the financial part of it.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the California regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about California regulations for Assisted Living.
