About the facility
Sodalis Stone Oak

Sodalis Stone Oak is a beautiful Assisted Living and Memory Care community centrally located in Indian Springs neighborhood as well as close to TPC Golf Course, shopping and hospitals. In the 2 years we have been open we pride ourselves on the care, socialization and loving atmosphere we offer our Seniors. Most all our care staff have been with us since the beginning. We help families with the concerns, and issues that are rising in the senior population to come together with a solution that is right for everyone.
The thing I believe sets us apart from other communities is our building itself, the way it is set up. We are a smaller community, one story, which is great for the residents. They only have to walk a very short distance to be engaged! We all have this personal connection and you will feel it when you walk in our community.

EXCELLENT personal attention.
On two separate occasions, my husband exhibited signs of physical distress. I each instant an executive staff member noted his unusual behaviors, discussed them by telephone with me, and took action to investigate with medical attention. As it developed, both times he required medical intervention to treat the underlying causes of his distress; one of these was so significant it was life threatening; the other could have developed into serious or life threatening outcome. I applaud Sodalis' staff and personnel for personally knowing each resident and responding quickly to causes for alarm.

Residents Deserve Better: A Call for Compassion and Quality Care
My mother has been a resident at Sodalis Stone Oak going on a year. While I appreciate the need for such facilities, I feel compelled to share honest feedback. A major concern is the attitude of many staff—often unkind, impatient, and at times, rude. I understand the job is demanding, but families trust these places with their loved ones and expect compassion and professionalism. The food is also disappointing, lacking in quality, variety, and nutritional value. More thoughtful meal planning would greatly benefit residents' health. Most importantly, there needs to be more focus on quality of life—not just basic care. Respectful staff, a stimulating environment, and better nutrition are essential. Given the high costs families pay, higher standards of care, empathy, and dignity should be expected. I hope this review encourages real improvements in staff training, resident care, and overall management. The residents deserve better.

Sodalis Experience
My Mom has had a wonderful experience during her last few years at Sodalis Assisted Living. The staff has been so kind, and many times gone over and beyond to make her days more pleasant, fun, and happy. I feel like many of the staff are “called” to serve those people at Sodalis…they truly give of themselves with love and dedication. Having [name removed] as the new director has been remarkable! She is tweaking all the former issues, and has made Sodalis a more beautiful, more organized and better staffed place to live. Her energy and love is felt by clients, staff, and family that she serves. So thank you [name removed] for being the leader Sodalis needed to go to the next level. I really love the family support systems you have set up, communication with family, and personal caring you give to each person there…clients, staff, and family. You are very much appreciated!

Mom’s last days
The staff of Sodalis always treated my mother with respect and kindness. Her dementia made it difficult to have a conversation with her, as she would forget her words. The staff always seemed to know what she was trying to say. In her final days at Sodalis, many of the staff came to her room and spoke to her, gave hugs and let her know she was loved. I couldn’t have gotten through those days without them. I recommend Sodalis to anyone who wants their loved one to be treated with love and respect.

Hoping this will help others in this review!
The staff at Sodalis are very laid back and things seem to take along time to get done . Bringing my mom here from Georgia would be different but it seems it's the same all around the country ! I'm glad I'm able to help my mom every day because if not things would be ignored. My mom is [age removed] and she doesn't require a lot of care but she's seems to be forgotten to many times! Her bathroom doesn't get cleaned enough, trash cans are not empty only if asked and they don't put trash bags back in the cans . She's had a toilet seat that needs to replace but still the same to this day ! Eye drops are supposed to be put in eyes at least four times a day but they haven't done it in 2 days ! They have forgotten her to many times for breakfast and lunch ! Bringing her to Texas was my idea and I feel like I have disappointed her. Sodalis seemed like the perfect choice and it may be soon it's has been a slow process !

Rising cost and management concerns.
The building of Sodalis got a 4 for cleanliness, but 2 for their room. I don't want to give Sodalis a poor rating overall for cleanliness. They just have room to improve in several areas to be top rated in my opinion. Especially for price. They empty trash but that's it. We do all housekeeping for my parents apartment. Including scrubbing bathrooms, changing sheets, vacuuming, mopping floor, and dusting. I give mediocre score for worth money, because of housekeeping of their rooms, and quality of food. As well as no weekly bathing schedule for mom. Regarding food, possible ideas. More healthy options with fruits and vegetables. Salads more varied. Sodalis needs to have housekeeping records outside the door when she comes and what she cleans. My mom is fairly independent but can do no housekeeping, changing sheets, etc. they never offer to do that in their room. She won't ask. They never encourage and help mom take a shower. She needs assistance with shower weekly. No saying " do you want to bathe?" I would like to have her shower once a week routinely. Cleaning of room at least once a week and charted what they did and when they did it posted outside the door or somewhere. It appears never done.

Mother not admitted
My mother has Alzheimer's/Dementia and, due to malnutrition and not eating, she was placed under the care of another facility. The Director, [name removed], informed me on a Thursday that since my mother didn't allow the nurse to complete her assessment, he recommended she be placed in a temporary personal home. He referred me to his contact, who provided a highly-rated personal home. However, after my mother was evaluated by the caregiver at the home, it was clear they couldn't handle the level of care she needed. I didn't realize that all parties were collaborating closely. When I contacted [name removed] the following week to ask about re-evaluating my mother, he reached out to the referral, who then reported that my mother was too aggressive after only four days in the new setting. DO NOT rely on [name removed] suggested referral service. Find your own referral service, unconnected to them. Bad business.

Great memory unit
I relocated my mother 13 months from a home in Florida to Texas so my family could be closer to her. I live in New Braunfels but chose Sodalis at Stone Oak to be her new home. The drive is 35 minutes and I pass multiple facilities on the way. Sodalis was the perfect place for me due to the size, scope of offerings as well as the level of care. What I didn't know then was just how wonderful the care for mom would be. They all seem to know and love her which I love. Their communication has been wonderful from start to finish. We email or text with concerns or needs which is great for busy people on the go. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Review for Sodalis - Stone Oak
Sodalis at stone oak was very nice. Had a wait list. No smell, however the memory care unit was very open but felt he could get turned around easily and get confused if where is room was. But they had a very nice outside area that we liked too. The representative was very distracted and jumped around a lot.

Caution after loved one passes
They need to offer a better quality of food and the amount of food offered was a small portion. The nurses were always friendly and other staff members were not as friendly. My advice to other families is to, be cautious about putting a loved one here. Overall, it's a smaller community and it's okay.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour was very good, assisted living is on one side and memory care is on the other side. It was closest in location for us, however our loved one is still very active and we just felt since the two sides were separated there was not a lot of space for her to get out and walk around compared to other places we saw. The staff members were super nice.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Texas’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Texas’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Sodalis Stone Oak 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
