Memory Care needs improvement
Independent and assisted living is entirely different from memory care--here and elsewhere. In memory care, my experience is that individual attention and consistency of care is not as good as in a well managed group home. Some care staff were outstanding; attentive, caring, and communicative with family. The administration was in disarray the entire time my mom was living at Santianna. It is now under new ownership and new management, so I am not aware of how things are now.

Nice ship but needs tightening
As you may know, the entire facility was just acquired and by Westmont before this happened, they lost the executive director and the whole place seem to be in chaos for a period of time. I have difficulty knowing who to talk to about what over there and they really only reach out to me for paying the bills. I am disappointed in the level of proactive interaction with family And with. Creating. Processes that support our needs with platforms that can be used to track progress. I hope that with the new ownership, they will bring a new level of technological efficiency and better leadership and more consistent staffing. My dad likes it there and I'd like to keep him there.

Tremendously understaffed to the detriment of those living there.
It has been nearly a year since asking for a repair on a leaking shower. Now the ceiling is cracked and the water pouring in when the people upstairs take a shower. The refrigerator has been leaking for four months. The elevators have repeat broken and are not repaired for 3 to 4 months. Dining room is so understaffed that it takes 45 minutes to an hour to get one’s meal, and then it is often incorrect. At least 10 to 15 high-ranking people have left their positions, including the the chef, activities director, and driver. There are no replacements. The state of the art theater room has been inoperable for months on end. Covid protocol was abominable. The health department was called in to deal with the rampant Norovirus that just swept through the facility. The menu needs to be developed by a nutritionist. Meat at every meal without vegetarian options is unacceptable. The facility is pretty if you don’t look to closely.

Overall, my parents are loving living in Santianna. The staff is fantastic. Everyone in the community appears to be friendly and nice.
The food has been an ongoing issue. While everything else about living at Santianna has been positive, the meals have been an ongoing negative. While there are basics that are always available and OK, the meals are generally just OK with some being terrible. On occasion there have been good or ever great meals mentioned, most weeks I get the same comments about the need for a new Chef.

My mom could not be happier with this community! What we love most about Santianna is just how clean the entirety of the complex is. The meals that are prepared are great. Our story began in 2020, when my brother & I decided that our Mom, who lived alone in a huge house, needed in-home care. We had a two hour evaluation done in December, which determined exactly what we had been telling our Mom for several years. She should not be living alone. Then in 2021, we tried again, with the help of our longtime family lawyer [name removed]. By 2022, after going through one obstacle after another, a beautiful place called Santianna in Carlsbad was about to open. As our Mom's POA, I was there for the grand opening, which was truly amazing. Finally, it was time to bring Mom to Santianna for a tour. When our Mom walked in, we could tell right away she was captivated, not only by the beauty of her surroundings, but also by their very gracious and helpful welcoming team. We knew right then, we had finally found a very special place for our Mom. Now she has a gorgeous studio apartment, many friends, a wide range of activities, amazing meals and a staff who truly cares about her.

Our Family's Experience
They did not do a good job onboarding but the staff is new and friendly and our loved one has settled in. It's rather expensive [fee removed] a month but it is brand new and very nice. Out of the other communities we toured Santianna is by far the nicest facility, and so far the care has been good.
