Review for Ridge at The Stratford
It seemed to be the best fit for my mother-in-law. It is a smaller community compared to some of the others we looked at. She said it felt more like home.

About the facility
Ridge at The Stratford

Just west of the Phoenix Mountains, Ridge at The Stratford enjoys iconic Arizona sunsets as they cast golden light, bringing the muted browns of the Arizona desert to life. The spacious campus offers assisted living and memory care services and is surrounded by tree-lined streets in a peaceful residential neighborhood. With friendly neighbors and worry-free living, the active community offers engaging events and activities, delicious meals, and comfortable accommodations to fit your needs and style.

Several courtyards give residents the opportunity to enjoy fresh air while mingling with neighbors or taking a leisurely stroll among the beautifully landscaped grounds. Studio and one-bedroom floor plans offer a variety of layouts, and the trained staff support residents with activities of daily living. In your free time, play a friendly game of pool in the game room or work up a sweat in a fitness class. Then, gather with friends in the dining room for conversation and restaurant-style meals.

Ridge at The Stratford offers a variety of community activities and is conveniently located near many of Phoenix's attractions and recreational opportunities. Enjoy an afternoon with the grandkids at Enchanted Island Amusement Park and then treat them to Chicago-style pizza at Lou Malnati’s...

Could Use Some Improvements
The biggest thing I wish I knew before hand is if you work for a living they make it hard to visit after 5 PM. At that time they lick the place up and you have to call a number to have someone come open the door which could take some time for them to do that. They told me when we were took the tour that they were in the process of setting it up for either a card or a pin but there has been no progress of either of those.

Do not move family here
The staff here are rude and never bother to say hi . Staff turnover is really high and that frustrates me because I feel like there is something wrong internally. The management seems like it’s not doing well. I can never get a really answer from anyone about anything. They have not had a transportation for over 5 months now and expect out of pocket pay even though when you sign your rental agreement it is stated that there is transportation available.

Understaffed
Understaffed. If your relative can get around on their own it could be OK. They could use a staff member to check in on residents to make sure housekeeping is being done and check in on the resident's general well-being. Better food. e. Visiting hours were too short. It is hard to make it there by the time they locked their doors.

Would definitely recommend!
Nice clean facility, staff very caring, professional and friendly. Food ok. We chose the Ridge because it felt very homey and comfortable. One place we looked at, we really liked the staff, but it was very sterile and stark.

Terrible place
I do not recommend this facility. Do not believe the website...all the pictures are staged. The memory care unit is dirty and the residents are ignored. I know this from personal experience. My mom died from things that happened in this facility. Don't trust these people, do not recommend.

Ask Questions
The cost is somewhat less than other places. Ask as many questions as you can. Tenants aren't allowed to wear open towed shoes so she had to stay in her room until I bought them and brought them over. At times, it has been difficult for my MIL to get her meds in the night. That's about it. No where is perfect.

My dad loves Ridge at The Stratford. He is very involved in the daily work outs and plays Poker a couple of times a month. He has his hair and nails cut once a month, on-site. He enjoys Taco Tuesdays and says they are delicious. They have hearty, yummy meals and desserts daily. Such great care is given by the Ridge community. My dad has an outdoor area where he sits in the sun and reads, birds chirping. This community is friendly, truly loving and safe. Thank you to the entire team at the Ridge, I'm SO grateful!

a nice community with great activities, friendly and caring staff
Everyone is very friendly and know the residents names. They have a ton of activities and that's great for my mom, because she is very social. They have various shows from outside people, bingo, raffles, special theme days and birthday parties. the only thing that is a slight problem, is they are understaffed, do sometimes it takes them a while to respond.

Positive experience
We chose Avamere at Phoenix mainly because of the staff members, they seemed to be very friendly and caring and oriented towards the residents. The room sizes at the facility are super nice, we have the 2 bedroom and it is very spacious with lots of storage space. Overall, I would recommend Avamere to other families looking.

We chose Avamere at Phoenix because it was a happy medium, the facility was not too fancy but not dingy either. The staff are very nice people and the rooms here are beautiful. My mom says that they could maybe provide a better variety of activities. I would recommend to others looking.

What impressed me most when I first interviewed was the people, the staff were friendly and we were very pleased with their attitude and they were more than willing to help out with all the paperwork. It is expensive but they take great care of him. I would definitely recommend Avamere at Phoenix to others.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Arizona’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Arizona’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Ridge at The Stratford 8.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies.
