The food could be a lot better. The breakfasts are very boring. No protein lots of carbs and fat and sugar at breakfast. I got sick from dinner last night. Usually the meat is too tough. The rent is too high and more than Social Security provides.

Caring, and so much room for activities!
There’s a reason why the reviews for Flushing House are so high. The staff is so caring and kind. The facility is spacious, bright with KILLER roof patios/solarium. The food is tasty, and there are SO MANY ACTIVITIES from informative lectures, fitness, bingo, movies, you name it. They have gone above and beyond to help me and my mom, with one director ([name removed]) giving my mother her OWN glasses when my mom’s broke. This is where I want to live when I’m a senior!

Staff & other things at Flushing House
Flushing House has a chapel, small movie theater, a closed in roof with cushioned chairs & sofas. It has a drs' office on the main floor. It has a beauty parlor & an exercise room in the basement. There's security at the front desk & they are mostly friendly. A lot of the staff are friendly here. There's a laundry room on each floor. There's a dining hall & you eat in there or eat in your apartment, but you have to pay if you want in your apartment. The servers are mostly friendly, whether they serve your food in the dining hall or your apartment. There are housekeepers to do your apartments. My housekeeper is friendly towards me.

The BEST place in which to retire.
We toured 3 others before we came to Flushing House and what a difference! We felt comfortable right from the beginning. The representative who gave us the tour, [name removed] was wonderful. There was no push to have us make a decision and the tour was very relaxed. I live here now and love every aspect of this place. The area is clean and pleasantly decorated, the food is quite varied and good and I have already made some friends. [name removed] is around and seems to know everyone by name. They love her! I am so happy to be here!!!

Flushing House Is a Good Choice for Retirement Living
Flushing House presents an opportunity for people to live independently with support (meals and light housekeeping). The staff are kind and welcoming Admin staff could improve by being as respectful of residents' schedules as they are of their own.

It has been an adjustment.
I have a 1 bedroom with a walk in tub. The apartment is spacious & it has a kitchenette with a microwave. The meals are pretty good & I have a housekeeper that comes every other week. The walk in tub is clogged & even though they tried to fix it, it's still clogged. I need lamps here cause the only lights they have are in the hall, bathroom & walk in closet. I pay to do my laundry here. Some of the staff are nice. Most of the residents are nice as well. I can hear when someone does their laundry. I can hear people talk in the hallway or close their doors. There are 3 elevators & I can hear their dings cause my apartment is by them.

Our experience so far
The 1 bedroom apartments are spacious. It's clean, but if you are a picky eater you might find yourself having to make meals on your own. Portion sizes are also small at meal times. The administration is nice, caring and willing to work with you. They could offer more food options. The security guards and the dining room staff at the door could be a little more friendly. They forget that they are working with aging seniors that may not be healthy or slow to learn a new way of doing things.

Our Experience
These are the main problems with this facility: One elevator is constantly broken. The breakfast food is a very limited selection. Addressing issues like a clogged toilet on off hours or weekends is extremely problematic. The cleanliness and friendliness are good. The staff and care services are also good.

Top Notch!
All the Staff and admin have been wonderful. I was concerned about my mothers adjustment after having only lived in her house for 50 years. But she is comfortable and busy all the time with all the daily activities. After all my research, and going to other senior living locations, Flushing House was the best thing I could hope for.

Flushing House Review
It's very nice. The staff is excellent. Very friendly very many non-english speaking Chinese...So conversation at meals can be impossible.. For the last month or two only one of the three elevators has been inconsistent working order. It's a 12-story building and the lines for the elevator can be very long. In a residence of 300 people this is also a potential safety hazard and the residents are beginning to take this very seriously. For this reason I can only give flashing house a rating of three. Overall it is a good price and it is a decent place.

A Place for Mom has scored Flushing House 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
