Our initial impression upon visiting was that the overall atmosphere in the Assisted Living side vs. the Independent Living side was more dismal. Less things to do in terms of community and engagement. The available close "garden" was very sad. Small, not tended, closed off, no view. Overall the whole facility was a little "tired" and worn in appearance (eg: carpet and furniture in common areas, etc.) The staff was friendly, helpful and informative during our visit.

Enjoyed meeting with Chancellor's Village marketing director on a number of occasions as we begin our transition from home ownership to an independent living facility. Not only is she a great advocate for Chancellor's Village, but she was a key in helping us begin a search for companies that can help us transition.

I have know Chancellors Village for nearly thirty five years and it is an awesome place. I've visited most recently with my mom for a few lunch and learn sessions and the Hawaiian-themed party day. Whew!! The residents and staff are both lovely and professional. The chef and the dining experiences are excellent and we love the apartments, common areas and activities. Chancellors Village is a warm, inviting home with caring people.

My brother and I are searching for a facility for our eldest brother to live in when he is released from rehab. We felt that the staff were highly professional, courteous and truly enjoyed working with the residents. They knew everyone by name and they appear to be taking excellent care of the people that live at Chancellors'Village. We would rate this top-notch out of the 3 facilities we saw that day, they were our first choice for our brother.

Chancellor’s Village has been there for over 30 years and the mature trees and flowering bushes made for a welcoming arrival. I got there several minutes before the scheduled tour time and was directed to the Bistro where I could wait comfortably. (And it WAS a comfortable little retreat.). Several friendly residents were already there and they all were pleased with living there. The atmosphere throughout the residence is clean, calm, comfortable and….homey.The Bistro leads out to a beautiful outdoor patio which has plenty of seating and a beautiful area with fountain. The home made pizza that was served for lunch smelled heavenly! Apartments had fairly large kitchens and good sized balconies/ patios. Some balconies were screened but not all. The staff were friendly and helpful. Watching the interaction between staff and residents made it seem like this was a community. This was a family!

The meals are excellent. Waitresses are wonderful and certainly skilled and dealing with the elderly. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Other residents are also friendly and helpful when answering questions. Housekeeping does a nice job, but I am easy to please. Summer residence complain that their housekeeper doesn't do a good job. But we all know some people never can be pleased. Maintenance usually comes in a timely manner to take care of any problem that you have. There are a lot of activities available. I don't participate in everything, but I think what is offered is of interest to at least some of the residences. I am very pleased with the selection I made and would recommend it to anyone.

The facility director, [removed name], is amazing. She showed us the community with all the amenities that are available to the residents. My husband and I met several residents while touring the facility. They were happy, engaged and it was obvious that the staff cared for them. It was clean and well lit. The apt we were shown was nice and spacious. Definitely a place me and my husband would consider for us in the future!

Facilities are modern clean fresh look. Does not give hospital or old people home feel or vibe - lots of energy with activities and people seem happy.

The staff ignored a blatant UTI (giving her only peridium ) and not conducting a urinalysis. She developed a fever of 106.4 and became septic. This required a lengthy hospitalization and rehab stay. I - and my whole family - hold Chancellors Village responsible.

My mother is very happy there. The only downside so far is that because of the elevator being out of service she is having to find another place to stay for those days. She has limited mobility. She is unable to get to the dining room.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Virginia regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Virginia regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Chancellor's Village 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
