Bonaventure Honest Review
There has been something gross on the hallway walls for a while. There have been cards that have been put in a "comment box" several weeks ago and there has not had anything done. The carpet does not ever get vacuumed in the hallway and the furniture in the hallway is dusty. They have one cleaning person for Independent Living to clean all of the apartments on a weekly basis. I have not had my apartment cleaned by staff for two weeks. The bathrooms are dirty. The servers are nice. I feel like the managers, [name removed] and [name removed] are only friendly to certain people. The driver is nice. One concern for the cost is other residents have made me aware that after one year the price has been raised $[removed] or more per month.

Clean, Caring, Compassionate
We secured a beautiful one bedroom apartment in the memory wing at Bonaventure for my wife who suffered with dementia. Sadly, by the time we were able to move her into her room at Bonaventure, she entered hospice care and passed away a short time later. As hard as it was to go through, one ray of sunshine was our experience with Bonaventure. The staff were caring and friendly, the facility was clean and well decorated, her room was large and inviting, and most of all, the residents I got to know during our short time there were all happy and comfortable. The care giver to resident ratio was excellent at less than 1:10 whereas some other places we visited were 1:20 or higher. The rooms were also nicer. Ours was newly renovated and more like an apartment rather than just a room like the others. We had a large living room space with a separate bedroom and nice big bathroom. Pricing was also very competitive. Based on my brief experience, I highly recommend Bonaventure.

Great experience
I would give a 5 for every category. I think Bonaventure of Castle Rock community has been great for my mom! The only thing that is a downside is that they don't take Medicaid, so we will eventually need to move my mom.

Not a healthy or safe environment
We are also disappointed that A Place for Mom told us that all their previous problems had been worked out. They never stopped having problems and went through 7 Exec directors while my mom was there for a year. The place should be closed. Even an executive flew in from WA and told us this is their only facility that has never been run correctly and threw all the past exec directors under the bus. We were given several months rent back and also our community fee but my mother ended up passing away from a fall she took there, which started a chain of events. She fell when she was choking and was trying to get help when no one came. (long story). Do not recommend this place to anyone. It is dangerous and negligent and run on a very tight budget. Things continue on in a broken state for very long periods of time. No activities offered. Looks like a morgue around there.

Prepare for disappointment
My mom first lived in the independent side at Bonaventure Castle Rock. For that purpose it was OK. The apartment was nice, the location good, etc. The disfunction of the facility really hit us when she moved to assisted living. This was against the advice of her care team. Bonaventure has a pretty bad local reputation. But we felt it would be less disruptive for her, so we believed the promises of management and took a chance. They acknowledged the problems and their poor rep. The managers will say all the right things. You will want to believe them. Unfortunately, all of the people we worked with were gone within a few months. In fact, there were *three* complete changes in facility management in the first eight months she was in assisted living. There is no continuity, and no integrity. If you do decide to risk putting a loved one here, get everything in writing. Until they make fundamental changes to improve their culture, do everyone a favor and don't support this facility.

New Memory Care Director and staff are excellent
I think the new directory of the Memory Care unit, [name removed], is doing a really good job of creating a positive working environment for her team and providing good care for the memory care residents. She is very knowledgeable and caring. [name removed] is an excellent caregiver who has been on staff a long time. Other staff members also provide good care. My mother is 94 and has been in the Memory Care unit for one year. It was a little hard at first but [name removed] and [name removed]as directors are willing to listen and make changes as needed. But the new director, [name removed], has made a big difference to the whole atmosphere of the unit. I feel encouraged that as a whole the local directors are determined to work toward making changes as needed. The facility is lovely. Staffing challenges seem to be better now but clearly were a challenge for all during the intense Covid times. We are pleased and mom is content and cared for.

Beautiful Property
Place presents very well and has great curb appeal. That’s where it ends. We had our father in this facility for seven months and had no issues until his care level required assisted living. The turnover of staff, the incompetent leadership and general turmoil all contributed to a fear for safety of our father. On more than one occasion we would find him looking like a homeless man; unshaven for several days, dirty clothes, housekeeping nonexistent with overflowing trash and had not eaten for two days on another occasion due to no assistance to get to the dinning room or being checked on. I confirmed this trend at the nearby hospital after he had a fall resulting in and requiring an emergency room visit. The charge nurse said to remove your father from this facility asap as she had personally dealt with multiple similar issues.

Expensive. Value lacking for what we're paying.
The food has been a real challenge. The residents collectively feel the quality is poor and brought it up to management, so hopefully they address the issue. I think they're trying to mind dietary restrictions for seniors, but the residents find the food lacking in taste, everything is overcooked, meals are served cold, etc. I also think they have staffing challenges, like everybody does right now with Covid and the current work environment. Some of the staff there are fantastic. Some of them are just grumpy. I think their shuttle service is excellent though. They do a good job getting my loved one out to the store, and [name removed] who runs the service is great.

Disappointed
I would tell others that the place is in chaos right now. They keep going through directors and cannot keep anybody in place. They have gone through even more chefs, the food started out ok when my loved one first moved in but has gone so far downhill. They still have not fixed their staffing problems. At times there may be 1-2 people serving the entire facility. Management is never around to talk to about what is going on. When I do voice complaints, no one calls back. We have been very disappointed in our experience.

overall our mother is very pleased with her living situation
There has been a couple of minor issues here and there but we have nothing but great things to say about the staff members. Everything is very clean and as you would expect. the meals and dining service is the primary area that is suffering which is because of the staffing issues but they are doing their best. The activities seem reasonably good, but our loved one is starting to show signs of memory loss so sometimes she forgets about what activities go on.

Took our money did nothing
Bad experience the story was never the same way twice in a row. Looking for assisted living but because that only offered 2 hours a day they recommended memory care all inclusive and he would get all the care he needed for the $7k quote. We told them this was a trial for us and him and if it didn’t work out we would take him out. We were provided a copy of the contract for review. When it was time to sign the contract the price went up to $7.4K We pushed back and they returned to the original $7k but added a two year addendum We thought we were signing the contract we had reviewed. After a close review of what we signed we pushed back again. They removed the addendum. We moved him in out after 12 days they failed to do what they promised to do. He needs a knee brace but it was never on right bed was not changed weekly clothes were not washed hair was never combed. He was taken to meals and returned to his room we were misled. They kept a $2k community fee and $2.8k rent.

All the people that we dealt with there were fantastic
We thought it was a great value for the cost. We do wish there was a little more communication with us regarding all of her movements. She had fallen the day after thanksgiving in 2019, and she broke her sternum. She came back from that and had to go into assisted living. She had an episode where she passed out and they ended up putting her in memory care. We moved her each time, but it was never really made clear what the criteria's were for the movements. We didn't understand why she originally moved from independent living to assisted living. The regional director there was fantastic, the lady that ran the memory care was fantastic, and the lady that ran the medication distribution was fantastic.

Mediocre Facility - at best
The facility itself is kept up well. My mom has been at Bonaventure for 3 months and although she is not in love with living there, she seems to be reasonably comfortable all things considered. The staff seems genuinely concerned about the welfare of the residents which in my mind is a real plus. PROS: 1. Floor staff is courteous and helpful. 2. Facility is clean and orderly. 3. There are numerous activities and outings in which the residents can participate. 4. Residents in the assisted care side have their own apartment which is fairly spacious compared to other facilities I visited. 5. Residents I've talked to seem to enjoy living there. CONS: 1. The communication chain between management and residents seems weak. My mom has often made the same request for simple maintenance issues, only to be ignored. Out of sight, out of mind. 2. Compared with other assisted care facilities we visited, the food is AT BEST, mediocre. Additionally, the wait staff is very slow in waiting the residents tables. 3. Even though I mentioned that the facility was clean and orderly, many areas at Bonaventure are dated or almost worn out, i.e. carpet, furniture and decoration items. Hope this helps

Nice Facility, Constant Staff Turnover and Poor care
Many of the Care Givers we met were nice, and it is a very nice facility. However There is only 1 person that we know of that has worked at this location longer than 1 year, and that is the Front Desk receptionist. We moved our Dad OUT of Bonaventure Castle Rock just before the holidays out of frustration of simply wanting better care and getting the services he was paying for. We had several meetings with different Executive Directors, and just when we thought we were getting somewhere that Director would leave and we would have to start all over with the new person. So much turnover should be alarming to anyone considering moving here. His apartment was not cleaned due to "Housekeeping shortage", sheets were not changed on a daily basis as they were requested to. Shower assistance not given as requested. Medicine not given because they hadn't received a Dr's order, however they did not contact any of us to let us know this was needed, so no meds given!? Staff were supposed to encourage him to walk to at least one meal a day, that lasted for a week. One day he left the building by himself and drove across Founders Parkway in his Scooter and we were told he was allowed to leave the building. How is that keeping him in safe care? When the front desk person leaves at 7 p.m. there is no one to get a hold of at this location if we had concerns about our dad (If he was not answering his apartment phone) So many worrisome issues we decided to move him closer to one of our family members. Please do not be fooled, Would NOT recommend Bonaventure of Castle Rock.

Do not put your loved ones here!
My father has been at Bonnaventure for over 3 years. The longer he is there the more disgusted I am with this company and his care. They are in their 8th Director. There is ONE employee that has been there more than a year. I can never learn anyone’s name because they are not there long enough. Staff is not trained well. There is never enough so the residents are getting horrible care. Every issue I bring up I get lied to about what they say is being done! We as a family are very involved and can see what is and isn’t being done! Management (which changes every couple months) is very uncaring and rude when I voice concerns. And lie to me as well! Bonnaventure, YOUR JOBS NO MATTER WHAT ROLE ARE TO TAKE CARE IF YOUR ELDERLY RESIDENTS IN THEIR HOMES! Cost per month? WAY TO MUCH FOR THE LACK OF PROPER CARE!

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Colorado regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Colorado regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Bonaventure of Castle Rock 7.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
