Taking Care of the Elderly

The reason we chose Dogwood Crossing is our family member has more flexibility there / isn't confined to a certain bed or space. For an elderly person going through hardships, it's nice to have that flexibility. And I also like that residents can be checked out of the facility for outings if they're healthy enough. I think they do a good job overall. The facility is clean when I come to visit. And the staff are friendly to me, although they do seem a little short-staffed.

Review for Journeys Crossing

They do a lot with the residents, regarding the activities. They have cards, puzzles and Bingo. We picked this community because, of the location, it was the least expensive, and affordable. It would be nice, if family members could make appointments with the nurse practitioner, for their loved ones.

Tour of Mayfair House

We toured Mayfair house and the facility seemed older and I think it needs some TLC. The location was too far for us and it seemed like they had tons of openings.

I would recommend

Mayfair House is in a great location. From what I have seen it is a nice and clean facility. My only issue is they don't have a vehicle to take the residents to go for outings on such as Walmart or out to eat. They also have a courtyard and I think they should take them outside at least once or twice a day so that they can get some from air and a change of scenery. Overall, I would recommend this facility.

Great value

Mayfair House is an exceptional value. The manager and owners are wonderful. The staff is friendly and courteous. Concerns are addressed immediately. One concern is there are not a lot of amenities or many activities to get residents out if their rooms.

On tour My wife and I found Whispering Pines to be clean and well managed. [Name removed] , the administrator was an RN there before she took her current position so she has a lot of practical experience as well. The staff seemed happy and engaged with the residents. The memory care area has a nice little courtyard to go into with plants to tend if they so desire. They also allow some of those residents who still have some high level function to crossover into the regular assisted living areas to participate in their activities(supervised). We also got the sense that they are little more laid back (not sloppy, just informal)than other places we have visited. Definitely a contender

WE ARE HAPPY WITH THIS COMMUNITY

My daughter had to take over the search because I ended up in the hospital and we need something pretty quick and from what I have been led to believe this was the only community was an immediate opening. Mom seems to like it here she is doing activities and meeting new people. The staff is very nice very helpful from my understanding. Mom is liking the food no complaints that I am aware of. I would recommend this community

a nice community with room for improvement

Can't really rate the meals and dining. He did lose weight while he was there, which really wasn't a bad thing. Again, can't rate the activities. So, our overall experience was not the best for US! [name removed] needed more attention than they could give. The staff was wonderful and most loved my brother, especially [name removed]. They just could not handle him. I still can't believe we paid almost [fee removed] for [date removed]. To be honest, I think my husband and I needed a break! He is now in a group home with only one other person. He was awarded the Medicaid Waiver. He is doing well. Only been there a week so still adjusting. Thank you for your support on our journey!

Do not recommend - keep looking

I had two aides that did what I asked them to do about keeping mom moving and for reason she got a sore on her butt from sitting in the wheel care all the time and than got kicked out of Dogwood in May because it was a grade 4. I would not recommend Dogwood Crossing. It was bad, Nurses would lie to my face.

Visited this residence on Monday afternoon. It's a distance from the I 81 highway, and I am not sure that this was an apartment for my mom. It was a bit of hallway chaos, but it was also late afternoon.

Non impressed

The food offered the residents is awful--devoid of fresh healthy vegetables and fruits. Can't imagine how anyone could survive long on their diet. The staff was pleasant but often non-responsive. Unless there are substantial changes to the organization's culture, I would not recommend this facility.

Not a good place

This place is disgusting. There are many flies EVERYWHERE, on the patients/on the food. This is NOT a care facility. This is a facility that will feed & water. I entered and not one staff member said a word to me on either occasion, no one even made eye contact. I wouldn't put my worst enemy in here. I just visited a very close family friend last weekend. I was there 2 different days and saw the "food" they served. The food I saw served- ice cold grilled cheese, tater tots, and some kind of slimy green vegetable poured right out of a bag. Not to be outdone by a playing card sized square of what was supposed to be a piece of fish with some sort of rice. Everything was served ice cold, there is no way to be healthy in this place. My guess is the facility wrote the last post/rating here. Resident daily activity- 1. Get them out of bed in to their wheelchair. Feed them breakfast slop. Sit them in a chair in front of the TV. Feed them lunch slop followed by "dinner" around 4:30pm. Put them to bed around 6pm and start all over again. This is no way for anyone to live or be treated, the staff is NOT caring in any way. I watched how they treated other patients, I want to get my friend out of this place ASAP.
