Palms Review

Palms is new, has wonderful, caring & professional staff, great food, lots of activities for residents, and would recommend to anyone seeking assisted living . Physical therapy on-site is second to none. Its also locally owned, not part of a huge corporation, and managed by very experienced staff.

The food is poor. The staff is very kind and welcoming. However, with those improvements we would recommend The Grove at Canopy community to other families.

A good place for my loved one

Overall, our experience has been good here at this facility. We're having a few difficulties at the present time, but we are working through them. The food is very good and includes a great variety. The staff is very cooperative. They've had some staff turnover, including the head nurse. A lot of the Aides seem to rotate also for whatever reason. But I do understand that burnout is real, especially in this line of work. The young lady in charge of the Memory Care unit is amazing, but she's working a lot and doing her best to cover for the staff shortages. Continuity of service is so important, especially with Memory Care. So that makes it hard. The cleaning lady is amazing and always on top of things. She's a very sweet lady and has been here for a long time. They have nursing staff on staff 24 hours a day. The outside Medical Providers come to the facility two days a week. The activities are varied, but available if the residents choose to participate. I think I would recommend this facility to family and friends. Based on our research and tours, this facility seems to be the best one in the area for Memory Care.

Great option to age in place.

The executive director is wonderful. So responsive and passionate about elder care and The Grove. The building is beautiful, and the apartments really feel like home. The finishes are beautiful. The location was perfect for my mother in law. Being able to move from independent living to assisted living to memory care when she needs is important to her, and she can age in place at this location.

A Clean, Comfortable Place for My Loved One

This is a nice place and I would recommend it to others for their loved ones. The community has a wonderful engagement team and works hard to make sure all the residents know each other, and feel welcomed. They work hard to get the new residents involved in activities and community offerings. The staff communication with the family is okay. It would be nice to have one central person to speak to regarding updates on my loved one. There are three meals a day and a new menu each day for the residents to choose from.

The staff is really nice

The community at the time was brand new, and the rooms there are very nice. Our loved one says the food is okay not great, and sometimes our loved one can't figure out what it is. However, we would recommend this community to others

Another new place, nice and clean inside and looked like a lobby of a 5 star hotel. [Name removed] was not able to see us, but we did fill out paperwork. If starting prices we were quoted are accurate, it would not be affordable.

Strong memory care unit

Memory care is a dedicated unit, which I appreciate as my Dad has memory loss. The staff does not overwhelm my Dad with food choices, and it is presented in a manner that invites his appetite. He is given fluids to drink 5-6 times a day, as well as finger snacks . Therapy department is great, and keeps my Dad walking . He also enjoys the courtyards, as he enjoys watching the wild life.

Lovely Place, Wonderful Sales Person

I toured here while looking for a place for my loved one, and I really liked it. It is brand new, and wasn’t even finished being built yet when I saw it. The place itself was lovely, and they had a wonderful sales person. The only drawback was that it would not have been ready by the time we were prepared to move in.

We liked this community!!

My dad decided to not move into this community at this time. We do like this community and we would be happy with him moving here. The staff were nice and the community seemed clean. I got to try a little of the pastries and it they were good.

The food at this community is amazing!!!

The person in charge of the food comes out and mingles with the residents. He asks them for their opinion and if there is anything he could improve. The staff are conscientious, kind, warm and loving. The entire staff is amazing and are willing to help. This is a new clean community and although they are still working out some of the bumps in the road they are doing a good job taking care of my aunt.

Would not recommend

When it comes to the friendliness of the staff, some were 1s, others 5s but mostly 3s. I moved Mom from Starling [date removed] Their staffing was inadequate for her needs. When I found my mother in bed with clothes on from the day before and she was ill, I knew the facility wasn't being managed well. I would not recommend Starling to anyone

A nice community with room for improvement

Quality of care - The Grove has 4 levels of care. During the initial assessment at admitting, level 3 was recommended. A year passed and we have had to reduce the level of care because we found that most were either not needed or they were not being provided. Example - no one assists in getting ready for bed. As a result, my wife sleeps in her clothes. In the morning, an aide looks in on her and sees that she is dressed so she leaves. This goes on for a few days until someone notices that she has been wearing the same clothes. This also proves that she is not getting the showers that we are paying for. As a result, we have hired "companions" who come in for 4 hours Monday through Friday to help her. Meals/Dining - No one really likes institutional food. The Grove is no exception. 2 main entrees are offered each day. Residents are expected to choose one for lunch and the other for dinner. They often run out of desserts. When we first arrived, the kitchen was closed for dinner on Sundays. In its place, a cold sandwich and drink was delivered to your room around 3 PM. This lasted for several months until the residents complained and the kitchen reopened. The servers seem to have their favorite residents and tend to serve them first. The Grove charges a fee for delivery of your meal to your room. The fee is [fee removed] per meal. My wife is not well organized in the mornings so they send up breakfast every day. This costs me [fee removed] per month. Activities - There are 2 activities per day and neither is well attended except for Bingo. The activites are not well organized and they usually consist of board games, cards, etc. Other facilities, where my wife has stayed, had many arts and crafts programs, word games, travel discussions, etc. The Grove has a small stadium seating movie theater. When they do show a movie, it is shown in the afternoon and again in the evening. The evening show is well attended. Value for Cost - My wife's one bedroom apartment cost is [fee removed] per month. In the scheme of things, considering value for what is received, I feel that The Grove is overpriced.

Our experience

I have heard quite a few complaints on the food from my loved one and the other residents here seem to say the same thing. I do really like the apartment size and my loved one does too. The kitchen is nice and gets a lot of natural light. The main concern is that the whole floor was supposed to be independent living but now there are some residents on the floor who need more assistance. There is not as much balance as my loved one initially thought that there would be.
