Don't know what I would have done if I didn't find Prelude.

Don't know what I would have done if I didn't find Prelude. I was told I could not take him home after being in a transition care facility. I was driving by Prelude and saw a daughter and her mother sitting outside so I stopped by to ask how she felt about the care her mother was getting. She gave a very positive response. That was the sign I needed. My husband could not walk the entire 3 years at Prelude and was always taken care of in a very respectful way. He felt at home most of the time even though he did get confused and needed to be remined where he was. The spiritual guidance at Prelude was such an added plus to his care and helped make sense for him and me the importance of our faith at the end of life. The activities were very inclusive and surprisingly fun. At the end of his life, he was given the best care anyone could ever wish for, and I will always be thankful.

Highly Recommend

It is a fantastic place to have your loved one. It is a smaller setting and feels very home-like. It is brand new. The staff is very caring. The food is okay, it is served family-style. The room sizes and layout of the community is great.

A Good place for those needing memory care

A small faith based care facility that is clean and friendly. There are many volunteers from relatives of former patients showing a long history of good care. There seems to be daily actives designed to help residents maintain as best they can. The buildings are designed to be very home like which adds to the friendliness. We are very happy with this facility.

Happy with Prelude Cottages

What I like about Prelude Cottages is that it is a small facility where the residents live in a homey environment. The staff and caregivers have been wonderful with my mother. It was a challenging transition but they felt positive they could care for her. And they were right! I appreciate the support staff such as the on-site pastor and activities person being very visible and hands on with the residents. The food is all home-cooked right at the facility and is delicious. The family members are invited to join in mealtime when they are visiting. The most impressive sign of how great Prelude is with their care-giving is seeing family members come back to volunteer there even after their loved ones have passed away.

White Pine Assisted Living and Memory care: Excellent!

White Pine Assisted Living had the requirements needed for my husband who has Alzheimer's: end of life care/hospice; and secure memory care. The first time I walked into White Pine, it smelled like Christmas! Everything was clean everywhere I went. My husband moved into his room and immediately liked the activities, the food, and the caregivers. He has more needs now with his Alzheimer's - his extra needs are being met by the caregivers at White Pine at no extra cost! One fee covers all his needs, his meals and activities. White Pine is well arranged with comfortable furniture, porches, patio, and lots of windows. White Pine is a smaller facility with a total of 44 residents. The house manager is available and friendly to help out with questions. White Pine is just what I was looking for.

Huge improvement in her health, excellent care

We love Prelude! We came from a different place and this is so much better, within 2 weeks they got rid of a bed sore that she had for a year and that says so much for how clean they are, the attention the pay to her and how often they check on her. Even her skin, she just looks healthier, we know her mental health is declining but her quality of life has improved immensly, they know when she's drinking, they know when she's eating. No matter when I pop in, they're there giving her a foot massage or just paying attention to her. She was even content with me leaving (her friend the activity director had come in) and staying with the staff which never happened before and that made me feel really good. i went back to work feeling that I didn't have to worry about her.

Great place!

Very upfront and very positive about services they can provide. My dad has been there over a month and our expectations have been met beyond what we expected for a new location. The staff is very friendly and involved. They appear to care about the residents and treat my parent very well. They are always peeking in on her, or they stop in to say hi. I would like to see more communication between medical staff and family. The food is not as good as portrayed, but average. I think there could be more activities. I would like to see my parent kept more busy. Overall I am satisfied. I think the very best thing about Prelude Homes is the fact that they want to know how they can improve and they have regular meetings for family members and they are so very willing to work with you on any concerns or ideas.

New place, friendly staff, but you need to check on your loved one

We were given a nice tour of the cottage in White Bear Lake where our parent would live. Staff seemed friendly. Soft music played in a sitting area. Not all residents were visible. There is a caring pastor on duty. There is an activity person. There is also a therapy dog that will visit with residents. It's rather new, so everything looks nice. But.... We had some negative experiences once we signed up for our parent to live there. We were told that our parent could be cared for even with other medical issues. However staff needed reminders about how to deal with the other medical issues. We found out that unless family or friends are there often to check in and find out more about what is going on, things will not be taken care of. We observed there to be less staff on duty than is needed on more than several occasions (just one staff to care for an entire cottage is not enough staff), our parent was left soiled in bed, uncovered, waiting for assistance, and a meal plan that is far from nutritious (chips at least 3 times a week for the supper meal (instead of rice, potato, break or noodles) along with kool -aid or something similar for meals instead of milk or real fruit juice). Family is welcome to join residents for a meal so one of us was there almost every night and witnessed the poor nutritional quality (due to chips and kool aid). If safety/welfare checks needed to be completed on the hour, they were not adhered to for our parent. Letters to management needed to be written to get complaints taken care of and even then follow up reminders needed to be made. It was a very frustrating experience to have our parent live here. It costs thousands of dollars a month, but the value of care, meals, activities and care doesn't add up to the amount being paid. There were many times that temp agency staff were on duty who didn't have any idea about the specific cares needed for specific residents. Extra money is paid ahead of living there. You must pay for two full weeks after your loved one dies or moves. It doesn't take that long to move the belongings out of a small room.

Hometown Senior Living - Beacon Specialized Living

Management for Hometown Senior Living is unresponsive and do not hold staff accountable to complete care plans, they rarely visit the facilities they manage. Medication administration is not closely monitored. Nursing has minimal involvement with client care and overall operations - leading to medication errors that they do not inform residents, family, or physicans about. Changes in my loved one's condition are not reported to family or physicians. Physican's orders are neglected for years on end despite multiple discussions with management resulting in harm to my loved one. The house where my family member lives is often filthy. Beacon's Hometown Senior Living is understaffed and they simply do not provide the services they charge for. This company is corrupt. Avoid at all costs!

Would not recommend

My experience with Prelude is of mixed emotions. The shortage of staff truly affects the quality of care. Meds are not given as directed. Residents are forced to urinate themselves because no one is available to toilet them. The quality of meal service is poor! My Mom was in hospice and the staff asked a family member to leave because they didn't let her did soon enough! The communication amongst the entire family is poor. On the positive note...the pastor is exceptional!

Zero

Should be a zero. I am a family member and I feel so bad for the floor manager and staff nurses are disrespectful care more about social time with each other then with the residents. LPN yelled at a staff member right in front of me and other residents. Floor manager and staff take very good care of residents. If my love one wasnt comfortable we would pull them out. Family and friend circled business and it shows. Please make sure you check other options before placement.
