Mariana's AFH, Inc.

I haven't tried any of their food, but they're successful at getting my mom to eat (she usually refuses). Activities, n/a (mom's health too frail for many activities). on the pricier side, but they're taking phenomenal care of my mom

We have been so happy with the level of care and attention our family member receives at Mariana’s AFH. They are addressing her physical and emotional needs and supporting her to do as much as she can despite her advanced dementia. Our stress level is way down now that we know our loved one is safe and well cared for.

Wow! This is perfect for my mom. She will love the wide open spaces and tall trees.the home is meticulous and folks seem well cared for. This is it! Bringing my mom to see the home this Friday or next Monday. [date removed]...no vacancies.

They do a very good job overall at Mariana's! The place is always very very clean, and they keep the residents looking nice as well! My loved one always has her nails and hair done, and if they know we're coming by to take her out they'll make sure she has a nice looking outfit on as well! The staff here obviously really care for the people that they take care of, and are always kind and respectful. They take great care of the people who live here, and when I visit the food always looks delicious!

I think Mariana's AFH gives excellent care. Alas, my sister-in-law, [name removed], was unhappy there because she wanted to return to her husband. I think her experience was made worse by the pandemic. She needed to isolate in her room for 2 weeks. She also has such high needs that she may need a nursing home, or maybe an extra aide hired just for her. Mariana and the other staff welcomed family help and visits to the extent they could.

New facilities with large rooms and bathrooms. Caring community. Great attention to individual needs.

I think that the physical care is good to excellent, the home does not smell of bodily fluids, it is clean and well maintained. The staff are neatly dressed, answer the door promptly, and do not deny access to family members. The food that I saw included soups, jellied salads, small sandwiches, casseroles. The quality of food was adequate. There were 4 other residents that I saw in addition to my husband. They were either non verbal or only minimally so. I did not see much interactive conversation between staff and residents or among residents. Each resident had a private room, furnished by the AFH. It was large enough to accommodate a large wall hung TV that was provided. What I did not see is strong emotional support for the residents, the relationships that I saw between staff and residents were perfunctory and not really conversational. I did not see the staff sit down with the residents to talk, listen, or soothe if upset. Nighttime was 6-7 pm, the staff then retired to their private quarters and were not readily available until morning. My husband was incontinent much of the time; his perception is that he was scolded for getting out of bed to go to the bathroom. He also felt that he was scolded for putting on his call light after 7pm for any reason.

Mariana’s AFH, Inc. is licensed as a boarding house rather than an assisted living facility. Our long term care insurance has a clause refusing care in a boarding facility. [name removed] (the manager) worked tirelessly in arranging coverage, although I do not know if that was fully resolved before I moved my husband to another facility. The physical care is excellent, the meals certainly acceptable. Of the six residents 5 of them were women with several having significant dementia which did not lead to much social interaction. Our family visited frequently so we had the opportunity to observe: a quiet clean home, not much interaction between the staff and the residents who were in their rooms or sitting quietly at the kitchen table. I understand that we did not observe all of their interactions but the ones we observed were polite, just not emotionally warm. This is a good facility, just not one where my husband would thrive.
