Cozy, friendly facility
Overall I am extremely happy with University Village. They really do seem to care for my mom and her well being. They are always friendly and I've never had any problems getting ahold of them. I would recommend them highly... it is a smaller facility and that has been good for my mom so she doesn't get lost in the shuffle so to speak.

A 5 for all categories!!!! We are very pleased!!! What we like the most about University Village is the way the staff interacts with my mother. The caregivers are very kind and compassionate. At University Village from the administrator all the way down to the caregivers have been nothing but gracious and lovely to us. I would highly recommend you and your company for other families needing help

Best of the Best??
I can testify that University Village Memory care was the best caring and skilled facility for my husband for 9 years who had Alzheimer’s and stroke. All caregivers had great respect and did their best to give him a quality of his life at the facility. My husband was 67 and passed at 76. I observed the staff and caregivers for 9 years and it was amazing to see what all it took to take care of your love ones. Not an easy job, but hats off to UVMC!! THE BEST of The Best?????? PS: Daughters and all of our family members were so happy and pleased with UVMC!

Lack of Trust and Treatment
Do not trust this place with your loved ones. In our opinion, my grandmother was mis-medicated ultimately because we believe it was easier to deal with her as a vegetable, rather than a communicative, or times, combative patient with dementia. Prior to relocating my grandmother, she was not feeding herself, she was not eating, and she was not talking or walking. Within only a few days at new facility, she was back to eating, feeding herself, laughing, walking, and carrying on when we would visit. We thought we had weeks left with my grandma and she ended up living over a year at her new facility. I don't recommend this place of business.

I would definitely recommend this facility to family and friends. It is very homelike in its design. The security is excellent. The move in process was quick. Communication with the family could be better. We always felt good about our decision to move our mom to University Village. She received excellent care.

UV is a really good place. Currently looking for really qualified additional help. Would recommend.
Common areas are kept really clean. Rooms could be cleaned more often and thoroughly. Everyone knows who you are there for. And most learn your name. They ask how the visit with your loved one went at the front desk. They are short on staff currently. They are using a reviewed temp service. Caretakers are caring and good but the change causes special needs or routines to be overlooked. The temps are informed but not all info is understood. A resident has aphasia and temp staff is not aware he needs to be second guested. Major needs are understood. Fresh fruits and vegetables are served. Special diets are considered. Special preferences are tried to be met when regular staff and kitchen are able. Activities could be move creative. The cottages had really creative and fun activities. This is really a good place. They just need to find the qualified help they are looking for. They are really careful who they consider good caretakers. They handle the death of a resident with a lot of compassion.

This is the place for my mom!
The faculty and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There is always someone around to keep an eye on the residents at all hours. This was one of the priorities for me, and University Village was exemplary in this area. The moving process for my mother was simple. There is a fellow there who assembled all of the furniture that we sent for my mother. All we had to do was make her bed, do a little decorating, and she was ready to just walk in and make herself at home. All areas are kept clean and neat. Special attention is given to make sure there is nothing around that anyone could hurt themselves on or trip over. I have not eaten at the facility but have seen the meals. They look and smell delicious. They are always nutritionally balanced as well. My mother loves the food. Medical help is always available. There are buttons and pull cords in the bedrooms and bathroom. There are also activities planned all day that the residents can participate in if they want to. But if they'd rather not, that's fine too. The thing I really like the most is the feedback that I get from other families and the residents themselves. They all love University Village. When I heard that, I knew it was the right place for Mom. I would highly recommend University Village to others!

Would highly recommend
Every thing rates a 5 except activities. There are few organized activities. The ones they have are not creative. A lot of the residents sit around. Need more group activities actively involving the residents. And more fun stimulating activities. They actively help with health care. Found us a new neurologist and provided transportation. Have great physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy available. They all keep each other informed. Nurse practitioner keeps track of residents health needs and is actively involved. Staff is actively involved with helping improve quality of life offering suggestion's. Care takers sometimes need to be reminded a few times if a brand new change. Food is good and they make efforts to encourage eating. They take into consideration likes and dislikes when trying to encourage eating when a resident was not eating .

A great place for your loved one
I would fully recommend University Village. The staff knows about their residents, and if they have any recommendations or anything, they let you know. It's all been really good. We 've been very pleased with it. Before the virus, the food was always good. I've not had the chance to sample it since then. During the virus, they did Facetime so we could keep up with our loved ones. It's been very difficult to get in to see them, so they've started patio visits that have really helped us immensely.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored University Village 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
