Overall good choice
There are several activities but it is up to your parent to go to those things bc it is independent living. Same with signing up for excursions. If your parent is struggling with managing a schedule or telling time this may be an issue if you don't have a helper.
I think the apartment sizes are perfect. Not too small. Some units do not have cabinet doors. That can be frustrating if you expected real cabinets. Some are left open for people who use wheelchairs. My parents gripe about their cabinets but then again they gripe about everything bc they havent accepted the change.

They serve 3 meals at any time. (No more Breakfast is only 7 to 9; Lunch is 12 to 2; etc.) There is an indoor swimming pool that is kept at 85 degrees year round. They offer exercise classes in the gym and in the pool. They have transportation to most places you want to go. They have housekeeping free! They have activities, like Poker night, Bingo daily. The staff members are all very friendly. And they offer Care Givers for a fee. They have concerts and holiday celebrations! And they have anything you would like to ask for.

The food is usually pretty good. The staff is friendly. They are kind of slow on getting maintenance done, but are getting better. My mom is liking it there & I feel good about her being there. I love the fact that Lady with the Lamp offices there & the Homewell Health Services is good to have on campus.

Great Facility with Better Service
Staff has been amazing with the setup and move in, the ambassador at the location has made my Mom completely comfortable and was vital making her comfortable, super happy with the overall process. The restaurant is also really good with multiple options and the overall support team is terrific.

Found the right place
The Terraces was the perfect fit for my brother. He is happy, loves the food, thinks the staff cares about him . He also found a good friend he enjoys spending time with who has been there two years and has no complaints.

Substantial decline in quality and value since management change in 2024
Food has gone downhill since ownership / management change. My dad says that yesterday alone, at breakfast, they were out of coffee, orange juice, milk, eggs, and napkins.
At least 3 current residents are considering moving to Watercress.
The A/C has been down multiple times since my dad moved in a year ago.
The security gate is frequently not working - it's become something we regularly joke about.
There's an open hole in the ceiling of my dad's unit that's been left for months. It's not large, but it's still there and hasn't been addressed since the maintenance crew made the hole to repair a sprinkler in the ceiling.
The elevator is frequently broken or not working. Kind of a problem since my dad is on the second floor.
Staff turnover is alarming. NOTHING has been the same since management changed.
Services provided for the residents have gone downhill.
It has become grossly apparent that new management is only interested in their profit margins, not AT ALL in the residents.

What I like the most about this community is the staffing, the activities, and the meals that are prepared. Based on the experience I have had so far, I would recommend The Terraces to other families.

Recommend improvements
Staff inconsistent with how they treat some residents.
Facility has issues with air conditioning maintenance in summer months where residents are without air all day. Recommend this be maintained in winter months. Today, gas service is down all day and limits food for today.
I would recommend them however they do have some room for improvement.

Review for The Terraces at Kingwood Town Center
It's not the same place since the management change. Quality control has gone down.
Food is not good anymore.
Tasteless. Chicken served all the time; rarely any beef or other type of meat.
There are constant issues with the security gate. Frequently must call front desk for assistance to get in.
Elevator is frequently out of service.
There are not enough washers and dryers for all the people that use them. Also not conveniently located on both sides of the hallways.
This facility should have an emergency generator given the FREQUENCY of power outages in Kingwood. A resident died the last time the facility lost power.
Wait staff in kitchen frequently must be hollered at to get their attention so residents can be waited on.
Treadmills in the exercise room are for small people only. Those residents who are taller or larger cannot appropriately use them.
So, free exercise equipment is not a selling point for larger individuals. And most of us who need to use them are larger.

The Terraces at Kingwood Town Center review
We haven't had a negative experience. The hurricane is a natural disaster that is always going to be challenging. They evacuated my dad and he is safe. Yes we would recommend this community to other families. I know there is a lot of negative right now but we don't feel that way. Even my almost 89 year old father isn't complaining. It is an independent living facility. My dad gets extra support from providers we pay for. With that being said Terraces's is providing support to him during the evacuation.

My dad loves the place and I have talked to the other residents there and they all love it, too. Some of the residents have been at other places and they said The Terraces is the best. Everyone is friendly and outgoing. The staff interacts with the residents and the food and activities are also good. We have no complaints. I would recommend it to anyone.

I chose The Terraces because of:
A) [name removes], who was truly outstanding. She was helpful, highly informative and inspirational!
B) The "fragrance" factor was lower
than other places I'd visited. (Btw, the chemicals used in the fragrance that is added to cleaning products and air freshener diffusers/dispensers, are highly toxic, carcinogenic, and very unhealthy for people with fragrance allergies. Why these chemicals are used in places where older people or people who have health issues, live, is a mystery to me.
C) The property, atmosphere, staff and community are wonderful!
D) It was affordable

Arbor Terrace experience
My friend lived here at Arbor Terrace at Kingwood for a while but had to move out because of the smoking rules. We appreciated that they were up front with those rules in the beginning so we knew the consequences. The facility overall is extremely nice and it was a good experience. It is a place I would definitely recommend to others.

Arbor Terrace was very beautiful, but if I remember correctly, I think they said they do not serve meals on Saturdays or Sundays. There was a mix-up with our appointment - perhaps that affected this, but the person who showed us around I did not feel was as receptive as other places we looked at.
