About the facility
Plymouth Place, a CCRC

Plymouth Place’s red-brick high rise with colonial-style columns adds an impressive touch to the La Grange Park landscape. This continuing care community offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care as well as skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. Residents have access to amenities including a woodworking shop and large fitness center, perfect for group workout classes or enjoying a personalized training session.

This community takes a holistic approach to care, offering a variety of fulfilling activities and services. Assisted living services help residents maintain dignity and independence. Seniors who have slight memory impairments can take advantage of transitional care, which bridges the gap between assisted living and memory care.

Residents with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia receive memory care in a secure area of the community. Plymouth Place practices Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care, and is also certified in the Music and Memory program.

This community is just minutes away from shopping and dining in downtown La Grange. With Chicago just 30 minutes away, residents can enjoy a day trip in the city to see a performance at The Chicago Theater or a ball game at Wrigley Field.

A large population of independent living households which have provided me with many of my favorite activities and friends including visiting the Chicago symphony orchestra, the Lyric Opera, discussion groups, Art Appreciation Lectures, a cooking club, and Bridge Playing. My 1 bedroom apartment is a spacious 700 sq foot with a 20 foot balcony. Once a week all my 4th floor south neighbors gather outside my apartment's door to discuss current events and hobbies. The food here is wonderful with choices from 4 dining rooms. I like to cook, however, the food is so good that I only cook my Sunday dinner meal or when I visit one of my daughters who live close by.

Plymouth Place
I’ve been at Plymouth Place now for over two months and love this place. My apartment is a one bedroom 900 sq ft with a 20 ft porch that spans the living and bedroom with sliding glass doors in each room. Good here is excellent in all 5 dining areas. The population is over 400 in a variety of apartments spread over a large campus with many gardens and a large pond supported by many walking trails. There are many clubs and facilities to support most lifestyles as well as a variety of entertainment. This is the place to be in the Chicago area.

Medical neglect and abuse
The first time my grandma stayed here was years ago after recovering from surgery. When my mother and I went to visit her, we were told by the staff there that she had been sent to the E.R. (no one had contacted us about this, we only found out once we went there). When we got to the E.R. my grandma was experiencing a morphine overdose. The staff had given her so much morphine that she nearly died. This year, she returned after having a different procedure on her back (our family didn't want her to go back but she was insistent). Once again, my grandma was injured here. She fell off the toilet and ended up breaking three ribs. There was even an attendant in her room at the time and she fell when this attendant decided to look in a different direction and leave my grandma unsecured and unattended. Today, we found out that they have also mishandled my grandma's medication. Do not look into living here, having your family members stay here, or working here.

We love Plymouth Place.
Plymouth Place offers so many options for programs, musical events, educational activities, physical fitness classes, socialization, dining choices, volunteer opportunities, and happy hours in the newly renovated pub. Our apartment suits us wonderfully, and it is bright and spacious. We enjoy the many food options and find the Bistro and dining room menus full of delicious choices. We have met so many new friends, and the staff is amazing and so caring. We have felt very safe with the COVID protocols that the Plymouth Place Leadership Team has put in place. We are very glad we made the decision to move here. We are enjoying all that Plymouth Place has to offer.

Sad
Horrible patient care. My mothers diaper was always wet. They cleaned her from back to front, it doesn't get much more ignorant. They seem to have a lousy staff," you get what you pay for". For 300,000 dollar entrance fees and bills up to 10,000 a month the care should be the best, but it's terrible. All the staff are on their cell phones in patient rooms and hallways. I even saw a nurse face timing. This is a violation of patient privacy. Poorly managed.

We toured this community, and it just...
We toured this community, and it just wasn't right for our loved one. It's a buy-in community. Their rates were substantially more expensive, and the entrance fees were very high. My loved one would have had to sell all of her posessions to make this work. Overall though, it was very nice. It was definitely more of a retirement community feel than an assisted living. The facilities are nice and the people were friendly, but it just wasn't in the right location for us.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Illinois’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Illinois’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Plymouth Place, a CCRC 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
