May River Landing
Overall, the staff have been fine, although there is room for improvement with the activities. Food has always been a challenge. Cleaning has been getting better, and it is good to see that improvements are being made to the building. The one-bedroom apartment felt quite small. We ultimately decided to bring our family member back home because they were not able to care for themselves properly. Caring for an aging family member at home is very challenging, especially when eating and drinking become difficult and lead to other health concerns. There are also frequent doctor appointments and other responsibilities that can be difficult to manage. Overall, having a family member at home is not easy, but assisted living is not financially or practically possible for everyone.

My experience is that I sincerely recommend May River for anyone needing this kind of care.
I am very glad that I decided to come to May River instead of other places we looked at. The staff are very helpful and friendly . The building is very clean and pleasant, as far as the rooms go I am happy with my one bedroom. As far as activities it really depends on the individual as to how much they want to get involved. I find the residents very friendly and l enjoy getting to know them. Food is very substantial and we have choices if we don't want what is on the menu.

[Name Removed] was there a short time, but I found the place to be caring and he was well taken care of. 2. I found the home to be clean. 3. The aides and nurses were friendly and helpful. 4. The quality of care was good the short time he was there. 5. The administrative care was helpful when I needed them. 6. The food looked good, but [Name Removed] at the time was unable to consume it. 7. There were some activities, but again [Name Removed] could not participate. 8. I think the value of the money spent was good.

Our families experience
5+on all topics!!! First of all, Bloom at Belfair is now called May River Landing. It was bought out last year and they changed the name. They renovated the entire facility from new roof to new paint, floors, common areas, etc. etc. etc. truly amazing. What I love, particularly is the staff! From the moment you step in the door, and you are welcomed, then walk down the hall to the beautiful for your fountain, and usually can see some senior activity going on with great joy in their faces be it, music, games, or just the very nice dining room facility that looks like a country club setting. I am more familiar with the memory care area as well again, an amazing staff, clean, clean, clean, beautiful faces, and so much love being given to those residents. My father-in-law passed December 6 just a couple months ago and I have not been out there since. Truly miss going out there to see the group of residence and staff again, such a beautiful place. If I needed to go to a home that is where I would want to be.

Overall a good experience, especially for the price
Overall, the staff was good, kind and caring. The biggest issue was that they were very understaffed. They did their best, but only a handful of people could not keep up. There was a large turn over in the dining area/ food as well.

place is terrible under new owner
i lived there for four years. in july it was sold and went from being a family owned business to being part of a giant corporation. it definitely shows. they have massively cut services in independent living. the management team has been a revolving door. shortly after the sale, the executive director, the memory care director, and the activity director left. it’s been a real mess

Facility has completely downhill since change of ownership
Since the change of ownership, May River Landing has cut many of the services independent residents have become accustomed to. New owners have made it clear their priority and their resources are on adding an AL unit. They are paying for this partially on the backs of the independent living residents. I will be moving my mother out.

my family's experience
Overall it has worked for my brother due to the cost. The facility is clean but there needs to be a lot of painting throughout the common areas. The exterior of the building needs pressure washing. As to personnel the front desk and management are helpful and nice. The dining room personnel seem to have attitudes the times I have eaten there. Needs improvement. Activities are fine and most of the time the food is good. My brother would like to have more to eat in the evening but just him.

Hmmm
If you're younger than 85, look somewhere else. Young inexperienced management ...THEY KICKED ME OUT after 2 years BECAUSE I Didn't PLAY PATTY CAKE...I addressed core systemic issues with management and they weren't receptive....dining experience and food was always good despite kitchen staff turnover. Watch out for strange alarming behaviour of some residents in independent living area.

A perfect fit!
More than just a friendliness and care, the staff councils and guides you through a difficult process of putting your loved one in a home. They tell you what is usual, normal to ease your mind as you transition. The rooms are very ample spacious!bathrooms, spacious! The amenities offer regular activities, nice afternoon, snack, snacks nice gather area where they have music, things along the hallway in "windows" with things to look at and think about, there's a ice cream café, where they have parties or loved ones can go and eat lunch With their loved one or visit anytime. There is an outdoor garden sitting pergola lounging area for them to have fresh air and enjoy nature great rotation on laundry, getting done, beds changed, and always seem to know what's going on with our loved one.

Bloom at Belfair overall.
Very old building. The entire exterior of the building needs power washing beginning with the wicker chairs and white wooden rocking chairs at the front entrance. There are holes in the interior ceilings that need repair ;two outside my room where water leaked from the ceiling and the carpet below it was soaked. Fans to dry wet carpet in the hallways are sometimes needed due to leaks from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor. The building is not kept up & the owners don’t seem to care, but I believe [name removed], the manager, will address that. Many residents attended a meeting last week about the quality of the food going downhill, & [name removed] listened, took notes, & the food is now delicious since that meeting. The next meeting is about the building itself, staffing & safety for people with memory issues. The activities director & physical therapist are great. The maintenance men are responsive …hanging shelves, changing fan lights, etc. The residents are kind & help each other if help is needed.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know South Carolina’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about South Carolina’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored May River Landing 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
