Secure site, but limited "memory" care & stimulation
We were fortunate to find Cascade Gardens "Memory" facility at a time when our sister hadn't been approved for Medicaid yet, and they consented to take her as we waited. It was a safe place for her when she couldn't take care of herself in her apt. She went to 3rd floor, where the sweet attendants were very caring and hard-working in feeding, changing, dressing, showering, etc. the residents. But normally there are only 2 attendants, and they need more for the 18-20 floor residents! My biggest complaints were that the over-worked staff couldn't work on sanitation (washing hands after lunch), couldn't shampoo often as was needed, and there was VERY little in memory activities for these later stage residents, or even diversions. Turning on the TV doesn't count, nor just being allowed to wander the halls. First floor residents, not as progressed in their disease, receive much better activities, stimulation, and interactions with staff. We ended up signing sister up for Hospice, and moving her to [removed]. It pays to look around for alternates if your loved one is at an advanced stage.

Not the right fit.
I toured the Cascade Park Gardens. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and they answered all of my questions. The facility was clean but it did look like it needed some painting done. There were two residents to a room and I was looking for something more private for my mom.

We moved my mother in law into Cascade Gardens 2 months ago. We were concerned about how she would adjust after living alone for 40 years. Staff were supportive, personal, and caring. She has had no difficulties with adjustment, and has told us, "They have everything I like." We are very pleased!

It Is Fantastic Here
We are pretty sure we are moving our loved one here. The residents are happy every where you go, there not a face that looked unhappy. I got to view all levels of the facility and I did see they were clean an up-kept. The community is like a hidden gem, it does not look like the typical community but is truly a wonderful place. I most like there are activities and outing available for our loved one. Overall the staff put forth the best effort to keep all residents happy

A older and smaller building. In addition I was NOT convinced that they really had a clear understanding of diabetes management. They were very nice and the young lady that gave me the tour was very helpful. It's just not the right place for my mom

The Director was very pleasant and willing to answer questions, but is fairly new and not sure about some things. I was not too pleased with how they deal with meals. If I had to change Mom, I would consider them.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Washington’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Washington’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
